    Scott Radian ?

Has anyone seen one in person or cast one? Looks pretty interesting to me.

Cast a bunch at the show, take my view with a grain of salt since I'm professionally biased but.....
The whole fast meets feel hyperbole just means it's a medium action rod. it's nice and smooth casting but I thought lacked the balls to be a true fast action rod. Nowhere near as dynamic as say a Sage ONE or Helios 2, would much rather have one of those especially if dealing with wind, quick shots off the tip, or pushing for distance. Nice quiver rod, but for an all rounder like they're billing it you can do better.

What did you think of it for a 10ft 5wt to put in between a 8'8" 4wt G2 and a 9' 6wt S4? Not sure if you read the Fishing Fool thread that I mentioned wanting one or not, but basically, I want a 10ft rod mainly for nymphing or still water...when the slow and shorter G2 is not enough, but I am not casting heavy streamers and need my fast 6wt.

At least I think the S4 is pretty fast...I don't really want anything faster, but the G2 is a little soft and short for double nymphs, weight, and an indicator. Thx!

I heard a similar story from a bunch of folks. If I was in your shoes, I'd go for the ONE or maybe a Winston biiix.

That is disappointing. It got such great initial reviews and won several awards already.

I could get behind the Winston or maybe even a Helios 2. I have a hard time buying a high end Sage. I do not find them very attractive.

Yah, for nymphing and stillwater I'd look elsewhere. The 5100 ONE is a very sweet stick. I'm sure the H2 is a well as their 10'ers have usually been nice.

I've been fishing the Radian (5 and 6 wt's) since July. Awesome trout and carp rod. I have to disagree with a few people above. I've fished all the new Sage rods, and the One is just a broom stick that has no feel in the tip. The tip is where I feel that Sage always misses the mark. The One is a good stick, but has no finesse to it. The Radian is indeed a fast action rod, it just has a soft tip. I took the 6wt to AK and it handled big sculpins, flesh flies, and sight fishing with single beads. It handles a big to small load, very easily and it can huck line. You will have to push it to get 80-100ft but when do you ever need that? The 5wt does everything but throw big streamers. Its great on a boat, its awesome throwing tiny dries, and its an amazing line mending rod. I think as a trout stick, you can't beat the radian (also for carp).

The 8wt how ever does lack the wind cutting power you will get with some of the stiffer rods. The radian sweet spot is 4-6wts.

A 10ft 5wt Radian would be a sweet stick. Softer than the S4 but no where near as soft as the G2. Would be a great Czech nymphing rod or a 4wt 10ft.

Hmmm....I find your review interesting. I own a 9ft 6wt S4, and test cast a Radian 9'6" 6wt. Now, I know the longer rod makes a difference, but I thought the tip on my S4 is way more supple and that the S4 was more fun to cast an unweighted line. According to Scott, the Radian is a faster rod than the S4. I would like to try a 9ft 6wt Radian to see a more apples to apples comparison, and it is not like anyone would ever dry fly fish with the 9'6" 6wt. They are def. pretty rods.

Abarbs, you interested in getting out on the Platte for some carp? I have been out the last two weekends since it has been warm. Found lots of cruisers and fish up in the water column...none nose down, and haven't had any luck getting them interested in my fly. I have been using my 6wt S4 lately, but just purhased a used Scott X2S 7wt, mainly for carp and wiper around town. Just am waiting for my reel to come....
