....There was this papa skier and a baby skier standing on a very iffy cornice one day looking down at a bunch of Cougars entrenched on a deck, topless, enjoying Apres'.... I didnt think the definition of straightlining was this subjective. It means not fucking turning, not making really big gradual fast turns, it means not turning.

His slough set off that slide. You cant make slough unless you turn. Hence, he wasn't straightlinging it the whole run.

You most certainly can set off an avalanche while straightlining. I know because I've done it. There's a very narrow chute at Kirkwood with several names (Tremans, One Man, etc.) It's basically a tight slot in a big rock face. The drop in is steep, you pick up a ton of speed very quickly, and it narrows down to a slot just big enough to ski through. Here's a pic courtesy of the 6'er.



Anyway, I dropped in one day and the whole apron below the exit slid out and took me for a nice little ride. As a result, I now wear my beacon inbounds whenever there's fresh snow on the ground without exception.

So you didnt turn at all, just purely pointed it? I can see your skis are on edge in the pic.




This thread was mostly for shiggles, but since there has been some confusing, I'll spell it out a bit more, has anyone set off a slide while doing nothing but pointing it the whole run, no turns of any sort, no hucking or air or anythng, just pointing it? I'm still waiting for evidence.
