Music angle was Crossroads. Vampire angle was From Dusk 'til Dawn. Been multiple better moonshine and gunrunning TV shows and movies - Boardwalk Empire for example. It looked good but ultimately milquetoast for me.

Be nice to have a decent Western as the cinemas have been more or less dry of them since HATEFUL EIGHT.

This one looks to have a decent cast, but still looks a little too polished (I liked my Westerns gritty):

    Quick reviews:

Got an early screening of Phoenician Scheme last week (thanks LA!) - thought it was good! Not Wes Anderson's best film, but very entertaining throughout. Michael Cera should be in every Anderson film going forward. He crushed it.

Balerina - Saw it last night. It was not nearly as good as the OG John Wick, and Ana de Armas felt like she mailed it in. I'll give it a solid MEH. Stream it, but maybe don't pay to see it.

    THE LIFE OF CHUCK
Go see this Stephen King adaptation pronto.
    Holy shit is it good.
I fricking cried tears of joy throughout.
Best film I have seen this year .
About to go buy the book it’s based on.
Yeah, I liked it that much.

Also, my recommendation is to go see it cold.
Don’t read any reviews and don’t watch the trailer. Go in “blind.”
    That’s the way to go.
The story just unfolds so nicely and with sweet surprises, both in terms of the story and in regards to the fantastically deep cast.

    I would concur 100%.
I was so gorgeously surprised by the film that I am sure it made it better.
Also, there is so much going on that I am considering seeing it again

    Right on.

Hoping to catch it this coming week.

I watched 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later the last two nights and I have to say that they have aged well.

Indeed! And with Danny Boyle once again at the helm, I am pretty confident I'll enjoy this latest installment as well.

Nailed it. I finally watched it and was confounded by all the hype. That was a genuinely bad movie. Dusk to Dawn if you want the hostage vampire dynamic; Lawless if you want bootlegging. There are so many better movies than this but for each their own.

A close friend is a 20 year Team guy. He said this is the closest thing to reality he's ever seen, especially the opening scene.

Agreed. Saw both too. I watch Days regularly but not seen Weeks since its initial release. Had forgotten most of it. Far better than I remembered.

    F1.
As a lifelong follower of the sport, I enjoyed it, despite the annoying inaccuracies here and there and the sheer unlikelihood of the plot.
The cast is great, and the racing scenes brilliantly done.
I’m sure it will do a lot to further boost the popularity of F1 in the US (and everywhere else) interesting demographic in the theater lots of families, groups of teenage kids and women.

I suppose the fact that I can't think of anything I'm less interested in than car racing puts me at odds with the average American.

    JAWS 50th ANNIVERSARY
Sure, the official anniversary was back on the 20th of June, but the original Summer Blockbuster is swimming back into movie theaters in late August.
What’s more, some cinemas will be showing the 3D conversion.

Here’s a piece about how and why Spielberg chose to convert his classic:

The seminal giant shark thriller will be screening at Cinemark and lots of other chains starting Friday 8/29/25.

Just a clarification, Jaws 3-D and Jaws 50th Anniversary in 3-D are two completely different films.

One is the crappy third film in the Jaws film franchise, the other is the original classic film rendered in 3-D.

Check out this HWR story on the latter:

To clarify, my point was that any Jaws appearing in 3D should be a hard pass !
