I've been doing this every day or two the last couple of weeks, and I have to say that my low back pain has gotten WAY better. I had a pretty good stretching routine going already, but the foam roller and lacrosse ball stuff has been awesome/painful. I highly recommend adding it into your routine.

Played 6 holes of Frisbee golf last night and that kind of irritated my back a bit. Just for a few mins after tee off.
Make sure to loosen up your hips and thoracic spine before you do anything active, it will *hopefully* prevent unessesary twisting at the lumbar.

PT says I'm recovered. They said to go ahead and try to max out if it feels good and come back for one last visit in two weeks. Fitzgerald Physical Therapy in Woburn did/does a great job.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

I'd train for 6-9 weeks before going for a max. Who cares what you max now, you are down in strength. My recommendation for DL 3 weeks of 3x8 stepping up each set unless it feels bad, 1 week each in order of 3x7,6,5 except do AMRAP on the third set, 1 week each in order of 3x6,4,3, except do AMRAP on the second set. That would give you nine weeks of DL, setting you up for a 1RM test in November. Listen to your body.
