You probably goona have to stay rigid like a Fatback for the mega fatties.
One of the Salsa guys told me the max they've verified is 4.5 tubeless on an 82. That's so close I've got to hold out hope. The bike rides sooo nice and was so confidence inspiring.

Anybody want to race their fatty on Sunday? The last race of the season (H2H series) is close to home and they have a fatbike category. I think I might, my daughter is racing so I'm thinking I should too. Heh, would be funny if she posted a better time than me

I'm considering racing my fatty at some point. Been way to busy with wedding and baby prep this summer. Rode and surfed a ton, but race weekends just didnt line up. Once i get my new wheels i'll prolly just race my cat 1 age class against the skinny bikes. When i starting racing singlespeeds back in the day there was no ss class and we were smoking most of the geared experts as we ran taller man gears back then. I mean 2-1 is what everyone ran till folks started gearing for their particular riding area or race. That ain't ss in my opinion. Ss class was the death of ss.

    Fattys should race with skinnies.

    I secretly want a bucksaw

I'm so close to building one just because but I have a couple other partial builds that need completed first. Sometime this winter though for sure.

That looks like a really nice trail. Almost makes me want to schedule a trip to Marquette in the winter, almost.

Stowe Derby this year is going to have a fat bike class. No details on whether or not it the same course as the XC skier as of yet.

11nine fat DH and Ti full squish that takes up to a 4.8. Anybody seen these or know anything about the suspension design?

I'm friends with Mike Riemer ("Kid"), who is one of their product managers. Super nice guy. He was in the other fattie movie that Salsa sponsored - "Reveal the Path". He does a fair amount of the photography for the Salsa site as well.

Looked through a few pages...didn't see an answer to my question. I also haven't "really" researched that much, I just like this place so...
Do you think there is noticeable difference running 4.6 tires or wider on a 80mm rim vs a 100mm rim? With tubes snow use only. I have only spent a couple years on fatties maybe doing 25 rides. I really want to go as fat as I can but the brands I have access to only come stock with 80mm rims. Since I'm a skier first I would prefer to just basically ride a stock bike and not mess around too much with wheelbuilds.

I think it would just make the tires a bit more round/bulby but at low pressures in the snow that should be good. I would expect it to give a bit more surface area for float. You might experience a little more self steer but nothing too overwhelming. I'm running 4.6's on a 90mm and it's fantastic in everything I've ridden so far.

Hey did anybody get a look at that Foes fatty? FKNA YEAH!! Point and shoot machine by the looks of it. Out of the box with 4.7's and it looks like there should be room for the 5.0 studded Dillingers. Quiver killer

Think I'm pulling the trigger on a Fatboy. Of the brands I could get it seemed to have everything I need...Except I'm not convinced on suspension. I will try it but if I deem it overkill it will be up for sale or carbon fork tradsies!

if your body is strong and you have quick reflexes and you like to be active/one with your bike and have you and your bike be truly one with the terrain that yer riding, suspension isn't necessary on any bike.

especially when you are going 5 mph...^^^^ Also worried about what the low temps will do to the longevity of the fork. It gets pretty cold around here and the bike will spend 90 percent of the winter outside...

or at high speeds. Faster you go thru the chunder/chunk the quicker/ more ninja like you need to be on rigid. Makes you a better rider no doubt. Sussy forks work til they don't. Buzzkill.

riding dirt on a fat tire is like bouncing down the trail similar to a kangaroo.

suspension is very necessary on dirt!

I actually ride stuff that has some tech to it. Not just dirt roads to the da beach.

I rode that stiff shit enough in the 80's and now these balloon tires are great...on SNOW...but the rebound sucks!

Don't hit shit so hard. Smooth man, that's the ticket. Other than the absolute roughest stuff I'm way faster than on any of my other bikes.

I think that with fatties its either full rigid or full squish for me. Heh, maybe one of each :]

You gotta ride different on rigid than full squish. Rigid forces you to ride way more athletically. No sit n spin. Only time i'm seated is on the road to and from trail. I may sit for a few seconds here and there or for a longer smoother climb, but in the tech its all about stand, hover, and attack.

You don't hafta be smooth when riding full suss, altho strawjack is plenty smooth.

Anyone know off the top of their heads a carbon 150mm fork? or aluminum for that matter?

Well, we have the 'roughest' stuff here. Mandatory rock drops and stuff....the Granite State Not big, but enough that you're hanging off the ass end. The other part is my bike is a tank. It's a low end fatty, so a Fat Boy or others would serve me better. I don't give a crap about speed, it's about fun and not getting the shit knocked out of you!

Riding the new tech stuff tonight browny. Waves are blah...so you can ride! ...or work

Waves were great fun in maine this am. No need to ride when there's surf. If i get out early i'll be surfing. Boards/suit in the car no bike.

Have fun! Perfect day for anything outside!

Many questions...
A 80mm rim will work, but if you are planning on running only 4.7 or bigger you will have a wider, less round profile with the 100mm and therefore better traction when it gets sloppy.

Another thing to consider is a 150mm thru front axle if you will want to add a Bluto in the future.
