Oh hell yeah
Oh hell yeah
Cool stuff. Did you notice the tire coming off the wheel at 1:04?
I would love to drive a Rally car (or at least take a few classes in how to drive one). Been to a few rallys and loved every minute of standing in bug infested Maine Woods or the top of a hill in NH in barely above 0 temps waiting for a car to zip by.
The driver I filmed below is Chris Duplessis in a winter Rally near Littleton, NH several years ago. He is one of the interviewees in the video above (1:05 mark just after Ken Block's peeling off tire).

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.</p>
I've rallycrossed a few times, where you can just take your regular car around a dirt course and it's a ton of fun. Also used to volunteer at bigger rallies doing stuff like timing control and tech inspection.
Here's a good documentary the discovery channel did with subaru a few years ago:

too bad they sucked that season.
Recent BBC documentary about Colin McRae.
Commonlaw... you ever been up to Dirtfish rally school in Snoqualmie?
I grew up around rally cars of the late 60s and early 70s... my father and an uncle built and entered their own cars and then went on to building for others. My earliest childhood memories are of driving my pedal car around the barn workshop while they were preparing a Volvo 164 for the 1970 London to Mexico City World Cup Rally.
dirtfish would be so much fun, lot o $$$'s but the thrill just might be worth the buck.
b
.
There is a guy that comes up to Nederland with a fully tricked out Porsche 911 rally car. I'll be biking up to some trails and hear him coming back down from Caribou throwing dust.
cool vid common law.
I lust after a Stratos, though I'm sure I'd shunt it
Havent hit Dirtfish but would love to. I say we do the dirtbag kart version at the least.

Brought to you by Carl's Jr.
the craziest thing to me is the spectators at those things. those people stand right there, right at the apex of the turns. Or else they're in the road as the cars come over a hill, airborne, and they part like the red sea. not me, brutha.
This is a pretty good video of Travis Pastrana's run in the Mt. Washington hillclimb in 2010. Good production values, not sure how fast he was but it sure seems fast.
Dug the shit out of the Stratos as a kid...built up one of those plastic 1/43 models.
Here's a modern version.
