    End of an era

I just had the last race of my college career and am experiencing a bitersweet closure. Racing introduced me to the spiritual potential and the physical rush of skiing. The mind/body dynamic in the course, specifically the focus and the flow, changed my entire perspective. It forced me to overcome fear and shed many of the superficial preoccupations attached to the sport. It offered a selfless experience, a pure emotional and physical outlet, where I was able to unify mind and body trying to understand the limit of their potential and the nature of their connection. For a minute I was able to channel all of the pain and the struggle of life into a physical expression. What I derived was a sense of purpose. The rhythm of skiing has shown me the flow of life. It is a pure experience. I can not put into words the feelings I get when I am skiing, I dont know if they are anything that I can relate. Now that racing is over, I cant wait to experience the next phase. Im going to move out to Tahoe or Utah next year and start fresh. I think that making the transition from the course to big mountain terrain will be one of the most exciting times in my life. Stuck in Connecticut right now, its reaffirming to hear about the experiences of people as passionate about skiing as I am. Hopefully we'll get another dump over break next week back in Maine and I'll get a little taste of whats to come...

Ice, he's prolly been suffering all these years through college, just waiting for a chance to blow off paragraphs without somebody noticing, and he can't even get away with it on a ski forum. Heh.
