    Question '99 4Runners and Tacomas

The '99 4Runner has the identical chassis and engine as the V6 Taco from the same year right? Meaning fuel economy and durability is similar?

For what its worth here are some stats I found.

    '99 4Runner SR5 4WD
    3.4L 183 hp V6
    183HP @ 4800 RPM
    City 17mpg / Hwy 19-20mpg

    '99 Taco TRD V6 SR5 4WD
    3.4L 190 hp V6
    190HP @ 4800 RPM
    City 17mpg / Hwy 20mpg

...and is a stick shift 4Runner that hard to find?

I found a 94 4-runner with a stick shift 5 years ago and I still have it. I had to look around for a while before I found it though.

You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

Yeah, a stick is very hard to find, especially in the later years. The reason for the HP difference is a detuned intake in the 4Runner. Someone in marketing didn't think the 4Runner owner would like the noise of the Tacoma intake.

One caveat. I dunno if they fixed this issue in later years, but have you ever seen a 4Runner with a saggy back end? I've noticed a bunch of them. If the rear is sagging, then the front tires aren't tracking properly and will wear unevenly. So if you look for a 4Runner, make sure it's not sagging in the back.

Toyota has a recall for some models too:

I have no idea if this applies to 1986 and newer 4Runners. And in 2004, they completely changed the chasis/body. I would call these guys: www.downeyoff-road.com They know a lot about Toyota trucks.

    Thumbs up

    Sweet! Thanks for the info.

I found out that 2000 was the last year they made these with stick shift, so that narrows my search to a 99/00, V6, black, size XXXXL, and low miles. I prefer the 96-02 body style to the current one.

My 99 Taco TuRD is getting close to 200k miles. Should I be rebuilding the engine anytime soon?

(Edit: WTF is with 2Runners?!?!?! People who buy 2Runners are fags! Same for Taco PreRunners)
