RIP: Doug Abromeit, former director of Natl. Avalanche Center

Was going through local news stories today and posted this on our website:

Avalanche forecaster dies while mountain biking near Hailey

Sounds like Abromeit was a badass. Hopefully, I can die of natural causes while enjoying the beauty of the mountains too.

Was a legend in the best sense of the word and would have been the first to deny that title.

    RIP.

Is he from Sandpoint? He looks really familiar, like recently familiar. I think I ran into him at SV this year.

RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

Yep. Last time I talked to him was to get him to write a piece for powder.

Doug was one of the true "good guys." I had him years ago as an instructor during phase 2 of NAS.
