And pray tell, just what was your response to said recruiter?
Your dog just ate an avocado!
What field are you looking at?
Is it in foreign markets?Originally posted by OffAxis

Anyways, in the hunt too at the moment, and have gotten a lot of "it's tough out, there", "boy, there's just not a lot of what you are looking for", etc, etc.....![]()
Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.
Well the recruiter basically told me that they really do mainly office jobs and asked me if I had office experience. I said I would love an office job just as a way to get my foot in the door, but he said that most people want that office experience and if I don't have it I don't have a shot. So apparently, companies don't want to have secretaries with a master's degree. heh!
Sorry for all the negativity on the board, I'm just pretty bummed out right now. Skiing can bring me a lot of joy, but it can't overcome my stress I have right now in my life. No job, Starbucks turned me down, I have a shitload of work that needs done on my car and my savings are being fastly depleted. Basically, it looks like I'll be moving back to Indiana at this point.
EDIT - Looking for HR/Training. Basically this is the area that is getting cut by every organization out there. So it's rough going right now. Funny thing is that the organizations that are not cutting those areas are the ones that are staying afloat through the downtrodden economy. It makes sense too. During these bad times, it's more important than ever to make sure you have the right people in the job and that employees are well-prepared through training to do their job right.

Have you checked out www.sahra.org?
they have monthly meetings, might be good to go to introduce yourself to the local HR groups and begin networking.
also, have some links to jobs I think.
Tryone, if you could e-mail me those links that would be awesome.
The problem is the SAHRA is that you have to pay dues. I would have to pay like $100 to them and another $100 to the national SHRM. I just can't afford that right now.

Not true. Tech companies (where the managers tend to have Masters and PhDs) perfer secretaries/assistants with an advanced education. You have to find the right recruiter (they specialize). You have to get away from the secretarial pool recruiter (they're at the bottom of the recruiting ladder anyway) and find the technical mangement recruiter.Originally posted by OffAxis

If you have an MA then there's always a future in technical writing (user manuals and documentaion).
whoops, no I meant there were links on the sahra website. I'll ask Mrs. Shoe if she has any leads though.Originally posted by OffAxis

good advice from Bullet.
Bullet, that's some great stuff there. Any chance you might have one of those powerpoints that I could look at, just to get some ideas? axisrage2000 at yahoo if you wouldn't mind me looking at one.
Thanks!
Tyrone - no problem. I just checked their website and might crash their luncheon tomorrow. Hopefully I can get by as a student still.
