I knew the stationary would be first, it is just my entire goal though to get on that mountain bike and ride, ride, ride. I know it will get here soon enough.
I have talked to my PT about an article I read in Mountain Bike Action Mag. IT talked about a chic who pedaled with one leg on a stationary and the workout benefited both legs. This was confirmed and will be my part of my new regiment in PT today!!! Thank God for stationary bikes
Somehow the nerves and balance used for one leg transfers strength to the other. Anyone want to comment on this?

PT today measured bending to 100 deg. in my knee. Now it is on for 10 deg. every other day. 120 by FRIDAY will be fun with lots of but the Stationary is waiting for me. I was able to pedal (right only) for 5 min. and felt the burn in my leg and increase in my heartrate. I can't wait to use two.

I was talking to the trainer at the gym about this today - seems to be accepted in the fitness world, but not sure what the docs say about it. Worth a shot anyway to avoid atrophy . . .

    KILLIN' IT!!

Not too toot the horn too much but man I am gaining some much needed flexibility rapidly. Today I was able work my knee to 110 deg. on my own and the PT gave me another 5 with one good pull taking my bending to 115 deg. They said they wouldn't be impressed unless I could do 120 by tomorrow (friday). Here comes the pain !!!

Mountain Bike, Mountain Bike, Mountain Bike,...shit!!!, Mountain Bike, Moun...

Yo Spread--sorry to hear about your injury. That's never fun bro. I can recall many a night riding the stationary bike watching old Scot Schmidt vids (this would be circa 1994). What a pimp!!! Keep up the good attitude and hard work!!

Oops! been in south ootah getting some much needed sun.

Well, I hit the mark last friday bending a hell induced 125 deg. with my PT sporting a shit-eating grin from bending my knee till I yelled [masochist].

Yesterday (monday) I was only able to get 130 with help again. I guess the sun from San Jorge increased my swelling.

I must accomplish 130 on my own before tomorrow (aaarrrrrgggg )

Today my PT added some leg presses (70 lbs) and standing toe/heel raises. This knee is coming back schweet!!!!
I tried to get out of the bending with the PT and then he yanked it to a ripe 140 deg. I didn't cry but relieved the pressure with a couple of "F" Bombs .

Next week I'm able to use 75% body weight and then after that 100%.

Anyone have a tale or story about getting back to it once you were able to use your leg again without crutches? I would like some info. and good motivating stories. THANKS MAGS!!!

Congrats on your progress! With 110 you should be using two legs on the bike, no?!?!

I'm at 120 naturally and have just set up my roadie on the trainer in my living room (thanks to Mr. Tyrone Shoelaces' generosity!) and am looking forward to many an hour pedalling toward my t.v. . . . yesterday I had the HR up and was sweating for the first time in awhile - felt incredible . . . and then I was exhausted!!! I think in a week or two, I'm gonna hit the road, Jack, and I think that will be the ultimate sweetness!

May the road be your avenue to happiness. Well, I technically can pedal but I am non-weight bearing for two more weeks. Next week 75% then after that 100%. The bike has been my whole drive through PT and still is. Also, I hope to use my BIRD PASS in July because THEY WILL BE OPEN through the summer.

    DAY #1 on Stationary

This knee is re-habing itself - fine, just fine!!

Today I rode the stationary for 10 minutes with both legs and man am I happy. Riding with 0 resistance my knee gave me no problems, enjoying aerobic exercise once again. Now I am setting up my MTN BIKE in the house on a work out stand. Happy times are here again.

My goal to ski in July is coming along nicely - but first things first with the mtn. bike. PT RULES!!

1 day after the Dr. told me to throw out the crutches I hiked on snowshoes, using ski poles for balance to the Diamond Fork Hot Springs. I think its about 1-1.5 miles one way? It seemed like it took me 2 hours to make it but I did and after being on crutches for 6 weeks it felt so good being out in the mountains hiking around.

Just wait until you get out on the regular bike and go to stand up and pedal and nothing happens. Really a bizarre feeling. Your brain is telling you leg to crank down and your leg just comes back with "'scuse me?"

Yup. Just this really strange... uh... why doesn't this work? Took like 5 minutes and it felt fine, but for some reason that was one of those movements my body seemed to totally draw a blank on.

hmmm, weird I had no problem with that while biking but when I first tried to run i def. felt a similiar sensation.

Well I am sorta expecting the same but hope the home training will make that a smooth transition. Tomorrow I see the surgeon for my 6 week exam. I am stoked and hope to present this knee if fine shape.

Now all of you who talked about slow transitions, were you able to get back 100%??? I take that as a yes since you didn't say otherwise.

    THANKS

Doc was happy PT is great with new exercises and increased weights, reps every week. Yesterday (sunday) I hiked up Suicide rock with wife and friends for a little picnic. I felt strong but know I shouldn't push it. Man is it hard to hold back at this stage.
I have tentatively scheduled a 4 day backpacking trip for the end of june or early july. Hiking the Paria river canyon wilderness area. This should be a good goal to get back after it once my second 6 weeks have passed and I get the go ahead. Bending to 140 on my own.

    SCHWEET!!!!
