Cross posting this from Padded Room, should have probably put it here first.
Planning a trip with the girlfriend for a week in the beginning of April. Flying in and out of Panama City, right now plan is to spend the first night in Panama City and then go to Santa Catalina. Not sure after that, probably check out Coiba and a couple of the other islands around there. We will do some surfing (we have both surfed a few times but are JONG kooks) and maybe a little diving. Looking for any recommendations for pretty much everything - lodging, food, bars, stuff to see. I don't really know shit about the area and am just looking into this stuff now. Thanks!
My only time in Panama I met some friends at a surf camp up north. Not sure exactly where, as I had a shuttle, but it was over a mountain pass from Panama City. It may have been called Playa Negro. Not my best surf experience as the spot I was hoping to surf really only fired properly for two hours during the week I was there. It has a long left hand island reef break that is mostly a long board wave. There is a beach break nearby, but it was pretty closed out when we were there. A small left point out front, an a few other spots. Most are accessed by boat, but they were doing a food/lodging/boats deal when I went. Might be worth looking into. Cool place. Its an island on the edge of the estuary. Decent hiking there. A waterfall you can climb. Bring rum.
