This is about the extent of my knowledge and it is subject to inaccuracies.
2 each 4" pipes w/ strainers are submerged in a creek (in the winter at low water it is only a 3" pool). The pipes drop 300'? downhill to the generator shack where a nozzle is adjusted daily to create the ideal jet stream (I believe the vertical drop creates about 150psi?). The water jet is aimed at a cupped water wheel in turn spinning the 240 volt generator. Power cables are routed underground back up to the hut. Obviously a lot more to it then this.
Water for the hut is pumped up from Kaslo lake. I think it is potable just as is? The treatment plant uses human waste as part of the purification process. This system is undersized and they have to fly out 50 gallon drums of sludge every couple years. The process is something like 90-95% efficient at purifying waste water.
As you can imagine Kevin, the custodian, has a fair amount of daily chores.
