These people all met while living/working in Africa years ago, so the goat on a spit would be more like a walk down memory lane rather than a novel experience. It also makes it all the more maddening if people won't eat whatever is available--y'all literally lived for at least a year -in a country where if you tell them you are a vegetarian and don't eat meat, they'll bring you chicken instead!

If great food on trips is important to you, avoid the huts and dorms on the Tour du Mont Blanc. Potatoes and melted cheese 3 nights in a row. (That was Switzerland; Italy was better.)
