Left Pack In Your Car Hitching Up Pass

You were nice and gave us a ride from the bottom of glory on Teton Pass. I was a idiot and left my pack in your car. I doubt your on here but its worth a shot. Will reward return with money and beer.

This. Seriously. Even more JONG points for hitching with a dog or standing in the road instead of on the snowbank.

    Thanks for the bump.

20,127+ posts... that's a lot time on here.

You should get out and ski more, It will make you less cranky.

It was late, the road wasn't slick and there were hardly any traffic. Probably more likely to cause a wreck trying to bootpack up the road in the dark.

Thats the kind of thing people that just got here from Vanderbilt do tend to say. Did it cross your newbie little brain to cross the road and hitch from Wilson?
Wydot already wants to close Glory to ski traffic, don't give em any more ammunition, ok?

That's the kind of thing people who have lived in Jackon too long and think they're too fucken rad for the rest of the world, tend to say. Honestly, I'm sure your a cool guy in real life but your kinda a self-righteous dick on here.

Thanks for letting me know tho, I'll avoid hitching from there in the future.

And no... trying to ski lower pass in the dark... with a girl snowboarder... in thin snow pack.... and a storm moving in, did not really cross my mind...

Do I think I put anyone's live in danger? No. If I could go back would I make the same call again? Yes. Will I try to avoid that situation in the future. Sure.

If its so unaccepted and dangerous then they should probably put a sign up or something. This is only my second winter in Jackson, but I ski the pass several times a week and have never heard anybody say not to hitch rides from right there (and there are almost always people hitching there when I drive up).

I didn't come on here to internet cat fight you either. You can respond, but I'm probably never going to see it so just save your fingers.

    As for my pack...

The wife of the guy that gave me the ride was able to track me down using a old ticket I had in my pack. It's pretty amazing that she went through all that trouble just to get it back to me. I don't think there are many places in this world that you will find good people like that.

Its a good idea to carry skins and a headlamp for two reasons. This being one of them. The other is for when your buddy blows his knee or whacks his head 500ft above you. With skins and a headlamp youll be there in a timely manner even if it gets dark.

Without them, you wallow around and tired yourself out pretty quickly and if it does get dark...just imagine that shitshow, Wallowing, tired, dark, cold, with an injured friend and spotty cell service and just to top it off, if you do get a call out... SAR doesnt fly in the dark. Sounds like fun eh?

A little bit of preparation goes a long way. Even if you are "Just doing a Glory lap"

Like the sign at the top that stops everybody from skiing the gut in skechy conditions? I think we've got enough signs that people don't read. (Can you tell me what the signs at the bottom of the bootpack say?) However, someone like rideit telling you that hitching below the gut is a stupid idea does at least make you think about it as you have already said. If you've got questions on pass do's and don'ts Look for and talk to Jay, the pass ambassador. He is usually walking around the lot with some stuff that says pass ambassador and drives a grey F150 with a maroon topper thats a little bit to long with some stickers on it.

Im glad you pack found its way back to you. In the future, the paper see way more eyes in town than a post on TGR ever will.

Glad you got your pack back, most people here (at least the kind that are going to pick up a hitchhiker in the first place) would go through the same trouble to get it back to you.

Now onto the next topic: Dh-ers wearing earbuds, and people that don't show up for trail building days.....;-)
