Very early, not a lot of details and I've heard things through second hand info. Two very experienced climbers. Positive vibes to the family of the deceased and the survivor.
Ya sad day, body was located yesterday and moved to a "secure" location. Lots of friends knew him or the family very well. I know the survivor is in stable condition with frostbite in the hands, fingers and toes being the most serious injury.
RIP to David Laurienti and a swift recovery for Lisa. For those who dont know, David was a mountain guide for some time up here and Lisa is the author of the main hiking guide for RMNP. She has hiked to every named destination in the park and became the first woman to summit Longs Peak in each month of the year.
Cause of death determined to be hypothermia. Still very much wanting to hear the story from the survivor. Wonder how much the avalanche actually played into the death? Maybe not much at all. They spent the previous night out (unplanned) and I bet they were pretty cold by the time he finally collapsed. Crazy to think that the survivor only had minor hypothermia and frostbite. Ended up not losing any fingers or toes. Memorial service scheduled for this Saturday in town.
