    Mavericks going off: contest

Looks like the comp started this morning w.20-30 foot waves @ Mavs. I tried to check out the live stream, but looks like this year they went all corporate-spansarship on us and you gotta pay

might go check it out later today, or scope the scene @ the brewery tonight, usually pretty fun time.

went down there this morning. tough to gage what size waves I saw when I was there - looked like about 20 feet. Pretty crazy to see boards flying 10 feet in the air above the waves when someone would wipe out. Saw a couple of rides, and wanted to stay, but had to get up to SF for a meeting.

Got some mediocre pix that I'll try to post later.

I'm hoping to head over the brewery tonight. Sounded like Pu might be up for it. anyone else?

Freshies - lemme know if you're going.

I was there before 9, and there were no where near 15k. I think that's over the course of the day. I'd be surprised if it were more than 1000 when I was there. Even that would surprise me. But it was early, and there were lots of people waiting for shuttles (and I just flew past em on my bike! woohoo!).

Brewery opens to the public at 8. would be fun to meet up!

yeah, I'll be really jealous when one of their noses spontaneously drains all over your blouse...

It'll be kind of like a wet tee shirt contest but, well different.

spent the day on the cliff, was surprised to get a decent spot. a good set about every 10 minutes and one or two jumbo sets an hour. decent newspaper coverage with photos:

lots of folks coming and going, I think 1000-2000 at any time. The sloping cliff had about 300 on it.

last night in town was too fun. saw a handful of the surfers out. jeff clark looking pretty stoked.

rode my bike home and like a dumbass left it sitting out all night. clearly couldn't be bothered to even put it in the garage. ugh.

my head hurts. I wish the little elves tapping on my skull would stop.

Also, I thought Jeff Clark pioneered this break not this Alex Metianzo dude at least that’s what Jeff and the movie "Riding Giants" told me.

and yes JC did tell me, and my wife, one lonely day at Mavericks, he is a cool cat.

Fuck yeah Taz. I grew up surfing with Tashnick. He used to be a little fat kid you couldn't surf. Now he's a little fat kid who can surf.

Pretty much my only bro from the westside.
