Metro News Avalanche Week

The Metro Newspaper in Vancouver is doing an Avalanche Week series of articles this week, focusing on avalanche-related topics. This is a free newspaper given out daily on street corners and public transit stations and can be read cover-to-cover in about 30 minutes. It reaches a very wide audience. Articles can be read here: http://metronews.ca/features/avalanche-week/. So far the articles seem pretty well-informed though brief.

Each time there's an avalanche fatality, I am always quite frustrated by comments by non-backcountry users essentially blaming the victims, stating that they are basically signing up for death by leaving the ski area boundary. I hope this series helps to educate the general public about what we do and how it is not unreasonable that we do it.
