    Craigslist fun

    I'm trying to sell something,

    I get this response:

    Hello,
do you still have it available for sale?

    Me:

    Yes

    Them:

I am okay with the price of this item and the condition of items and
i will like to make an outright purchase of this particular item
immediately because i am in need of it and i want to get it as soon as
possible, I anticipate that a cashier check or certified check will
be sent to you via express mail or ups or Fedex as the mode of
payment, concerning the pickup, i will be responsible for that, where
the mover will come for the pick up at your location upon your
confirmation of receiving the payment and i want you to remove this
item from the ad now. So i will send the payment which will include
the pick up charges, in which you will make payable to the mover via
money gramm/western union immediately after you have receive the
payment and you will be compensated with $50 extra for your running
around to the money gram/western union outlet to avoid the delay. And
I would really love to come for the viewing but due to my work frame
that might not be possible........and I will like you to provide the
    following payment information as soon as possible;

    full name .............................
    full home address (physical)..................
    City..........................
    ......................
    state............................................. ...
    zip code..............................................
    tel#.............................................. ....

As soon as this is provided i will let you know when payment is mailed
out and i will update you on when you will receive the payment and
give you instructions on what to do....thanks and i hope we handle
    this in good faith.

    Thanks

I mean, does this succeed for these people at all?

I imagine hot Russian chicks mailing this stuff out in the back of north Jersey strip clubs. Time to get moose and squirrel on it.

Can you provide fake info for the cashier's check that appears half way plausible? Seems like it might be sort of amusing to give this low life the run around for a bit. 419eater style...

It must succeed occasionally because it happens ALL THE TIME. It's such a common scam that there must be people who fall for it or else why would the crooks waste their time with it?

Craigslist is a PITA to deal with any more. Nothing but a hive of scum and villainy. Anything worth less than $100 gets given to the Goodwill nowadays as It's not worth my time to deal with deadbeats and scammers that are 98% of the responses you get to any ad on CL.

If you want to fuck with this person, go get a cheap pay-as-you-go cell phone for the phone # and give them a fake address.

I'd donate to this in return for a good TR.

Yes, it does work a lot. A lot of these scammers reside in Africa.

Nigeria is ground zero for that shit. They keep at it so it must work some. I had one dude threaten to call the FBI office in my capitol city of Toronto. I told him he was a jackass and he actually sent an email with fake FBI letter head and fractured English. I asked him how he thought the FBI would feel about someone sending out fake letter head and pretending to represent their office. He went away. They can be persistent twats.

The super detailed loonnggg paragraph for a simple Craigslist response is an immediate tip-off. I mean, if it was me responding...then yeah..it could be plausible (except the $50 pre-billed mover fee bullcrap)...but I swear I didn't write that!

In this case, the scam might be stemming from U.S., Canada or UK, as the English doesn't have the tell-tale fucked up grammar errors of the Nigerian scammers.

There's got to be a way you can seriously fuck with this guy/gal in anonymous fashion. You can be sure they probably send out hundreds of these responses a day.

I received almost an almost identical, word for word, verbatim when I tried selling a couch a few months back... He even copied and pasted a fake PayPal link into one of his responses... Needless to say - I reported him to PayPal for infringing on PayPal security. Not sure if they are able to track him down and do anything to him, but the PayPal guy said this is classic Nigerian scam written all over it.

Lead them on as much as possible. I almost got scammed trying to rent a condo for skiing one weekend. Once I caught on it was a scam, I fucked with the guy for days going back and forth. I told him I was shooting a gay porn film at the condo and I needed mattresses covered in plastic. Funny shit, people like that deserve it.
