I ski in the Wasatch mountains, roje. Since I don't have much money at the moment, I mostly ski in the tri canyons but, Ogden to Provo is the focus.
Yesterday, I skied in Millcreek because it it the shortest distance from my house. Off the top of my head, I count 25+ drainages with an infinite variety of snow conditions.
What I find amusing about these threads is the lack of basic snow sense
One tidbit= most avalanches occur during and shortly after storms. Both of the incidents receiving the most attention in this thread, reflect that simple fact.
I don't pay much attention to danger reports because my interest is in snow. Rather than relying on a subjective conclusion about how dangerous it, is my preference is to use objective information gathering techniques, which often involve snow pits because, somehow, I can't predict the changes in the snow from day to day. Guess I may be stupid or dementia is sinking in.
Over the years, I have had numerous up close and personal experiences with the evil doer, one occasion resulting in injury which has left me crippled. What I've learned from those experiences is "it's not a bad thing to tease the cat but, consequences vary depending on how big the cat is". Lions and tigers"ll kill you.
You may wanna keep that in mind the next time you stumble and bumble around the Wasatch, roje oops I forgot, you only meadow skip here.

    Over and out.

IMO (emphasis on opinion], people who get scared/panic whatever don't last long in touring. Touring takes you out of comfort zones. And by that i don't mean that everything has to be sick lines or death marches or all that overhyped movie crap but just that its not a controlled environment and even meadowskipping pow might involved discomfort. Having said that, if I or anyone was injured and faced a lot of contemplative downtime in a wet cold hole with a broken pelvis I'd probably have a few bad moments so your point is taken.

Motivated touring partners with similar mentalities and motivations ---- and ----- time off are hard to find.

but it only takes a couple/few. and when ya find em, keep em. they don't necessarily have to be the best skiers, or the most experienced or avy savvy, but they should be someone who knows their limits, can communicate well, and listen. i've got quite a variety of touring partners, at least a dozen, all a bit different and i/we choose tours based on the comfort level/ability of the group as a WHOLE.
