Just got this email from the Observatory. I'm tempted to go and hear what they have to say.

Mount Washington Observatory invites you to join us on Thursday, April 11 in downtown Boston for an inspirational evening with veteran Reconnaissance Marine Keith Zeier.

Hear the incredible story of Zeier’s survival from a deadly IED explosion in Iraq, and the slow process of healing that inspired him to help fellow wounded veterans through the Ascents of Honor project.

See exclusive images and video from the January 2013 Ascents of Honor Mount Washington summit attempt, and be inspired by the infallible determination of an American soldier who refuses to let tragedy end his mission to help fellow veterans.

    When:
    Thursday, April 11, 2013
    6:00 - 8:30pm
    Where:
    The Suites at WilmerHale
60 State Street, Boston, MA 02109

Its truly inexcusable... Putting glory and story telling ahead practicality and safety. The leaders should be ashamed and certs pulled.

Not to mention the number of resources called on to initiate the rescue.

Not every bad decision leads to a bad outcome and not every good decision leads to a good outcome... the mitigating factor is luck and thankfully these idiots had a pocket full of it.

    Spot on.

I almost feel bad for the Marine...It's unlikly he even understands the backcountry faux pas he did. the blame belongs squarely on the guides shoulders.

    Only $100 if you're a member . . . http://www.mountwashington.org/events/ascents2013/

Join Mount Washington Observatory, together with Zeier, Politz, and Ascents of Honor film producer Thom Pollard, for a behind-the-scenes look at this incredible story.
Serious mistakes were made, no one died, hopefully lessons were learned. Most people would be content to leave it at that and take some time to lick their wounds and ponder their decisions. These guys call it an "incredible story" and sell access to it at $125 a pop like they're celebrities.

Seems like it's only a question of when, not if, we hear about them getting involved with another entirely preventable disaster.
