    Paging Warthog and Hook

It looks like I am going to be in Fort Myers for work the week of February 25th and would really like to get a little salt water fishing in. Any thoughts on guides, fishing that time of year, etc would be greatly appreciated.
    Gracias.
Warthog, when are you hitting Utah, the ankle has healed nicely would be awesome to make some turns together.

Unless things have changed in SWFL, water temperature is going to be the determinative factor for late Feb / early March. Visited my parents on Marco for a few days last week and the Reds & Permit were ON. If you want to shoot me a PM early/mid Feb, I can get you some intel on the bite - I have a few buddies still living in Naples.

I go down that way a few times a year to Sanibel visiting the in-laws. I've fished with both Capt Rob Moody's and Capt Steve Waugh a couple of times each. The in-laws got a boat so I don't go with a guide too often anymore. Rob has a few boats, last time I went with him we went on his bay boat which was perfect for the area.

Both older guys, professional and good to fish with.

Not sure where exactly you are staying in Fort Myers, but they like a lot of guides do a pick up the Punta Rassa Ramp, its right before the causeway to Sanibel.

Feel free to drop a PM if you want.

Hey buddy. Don't know too many guides in that area. I can ask around.
Pine Island/ Sanibel/ Captiva area is what you want.
Honestly, in that area I would spend the $$ on a rental kayak, and just do it. Throw some live shrimp, or some DOA's, or the MirroLure- MirroDine, and you will catch trout, reds, snook. Fish the residential docks. That is where the snook hide out when water temps are down.

Looks like I will be in SLC end of March this year. Schedule is tight till then.
I stay at my buddy's place right at the mouth of LCC. I'll get you the details as it gets closer.

I'll be heading that way myself in 2 months, will be in Marco for a week...wondering if anyone knows if its worth bringing the 8wt and throwing some flies from the beach in the evening? Not sure what I'd be targeting knowing its the gulf and not the backwater, maybe spanish mackerel...is an 8wt enough beef or should I stick to drinking beers with the family (I'll also being heading out for two guided trips so we've got that covered)?

Thank Warthog. Thinking I may book a half day guide to get the lay of the land and spend the rest of my time in a rental kayak. Psyched!
Hopefully I will see you in the SLC.

Bring it. If the water is clear and temperatures are right, you could be sight casting snook. Around sunset, I used to get em cruising the rock jetties on the south end of the island (edge of caxambas pass). If you have any small spin casters with you, grab a few Don's jigs or something similar and blind cast along the beach allowing the weight of the jig head to drive into the sand and pop it to cause a disturbance - pompano can be pretty fun.

Thanks, will defiinately check it out...we decided to extend the vaca on the front end a few days and head down to Key Largo, anyone have any thoughts on fishing down in that area, we'll be staying at the Hiton? Won't be able to get away for more than a couple hours, have the family with (3yr old and 1yr old) and we will have just gotten in on a red eye from Seattle so can only really get out during nap time and a guide isn't an option.

    Sorry to highjack the thread.
