    ?: Alta weather in April

New England can have some nice, sunny april days and the occasional snow storm, but it can also be incredibly rainy and damp and cold, worthy of the spring time blues / seasonal depression or whatever it's called. I'm planning a long weekend getaway and had originally been thinking a chill weekend in Florida, but I got to thinking of hitting LCC. Skiing hard all day in the sun and then chilling in the pool or hot tub as the sun sets sounds pretty sweet.

I know it can snow a lot and that's sweet, but what about when it's not snowing? Is it typically sunny or are there plenty of cloudy non-snow days.

I've been out there in April the past two years. Long weekend in 2003 was sunny and warm. Last year (closing weekend), had some gray days and then a 20" dump on the last day.

I'm thinking of going again this year for closing weekend. Have to see if I can postpone my shoulder surgery that long and if the finances allow.

Agree. The Sierra can get a foot without almost any indication from time to time. And to catch those days is beyond schweeet.

MacDaddy does not lie. 3 of my first 4 visits to Alta were in April during large dumps (those were also my only april visits so far and none of those visits were for more than 3 days, thus the odds are good, judging from my experience). I distinctly recall at least 2 bluebird powder days on those visits.

i've only managed to hit spring corn days here so far, but i suspect i'll get an april powder day this year.

ryan, why don't you just give up the charade and move out here already???
damn, your total day count out here is what, like 30% of the year now? hehe.

A LOT more than 30%. I'm working on it moving out. Looks like I'll be doing the grad school thing, but after that... I Hope!

Altais generally sunny except when the skies are nuking.

Can't go wrong coming out here if you ask me. Sun & corn OR sun & pow. All 3 in the same day isn't unheard of either.
