    IR conversion

Anyone had it done (or done it)? Any examples of what you came up with? Was toying with the idea of getting an old body and getting it modded but was wondering other peoples take on it.

    Thanks.

I'd looked into doing it - I had a static bench and proper tools available to me at the time. Not too daunting if you have the workspace; as far as I could tell the tutorial was decent enough. If I were wanting one right now, lifepixel has their conversions on sale for $250. The filter itself is regularly $180, so a good deal. You probably figured that out though.

That was actually who I looked at. They charge an extra $100 for FF cameras. Was thinking of turning a 5D into one but that is now bringing it up to about $850...

So would you still use a #92 or #93 filter on the lens?

You can have them converted different ways. Some will allow ONLY infrared light through to the sensor so no need for filters. Others modified that allows full spectrum so you need to use filters. Problem is, if you go this route you need a camera with live view as when shooting for IR you need a filter that blocks out visible light so you won't be able to see through the view finder.

yeah, that's why I didn't. I guess there's kolarivision http://www.kolarivision.com/ who are cheaper but I haven't found any reviews of people who actually used there stuff. If it matters the resale market for IR converted ones on eBay doesn't look that great. Other than something "different" for fucking around do you know of anyone with a serious body of good IR work?
