    Pilates

Recently, I've realized that my full size spare tire and weak core have been hampering my skiing. Whether it's poor posture or getting kicked around in crud, my core is in need of help.

After hearing tidbits in the forums and then later having Mrs. Shoe rave about pilates, it was time to attend a class. After one session, I'm completely sold. I'm a fairly physically self aware person, and all during the class I noticed that I'm weak in several areas. Also the class works parts of your core that traditional ab workouts and such will never touch. Bottom line, I can't wait to go back again.

Arty, I could not agree more about Pilates. If you stick with it you will discover that you will also strengthen a bunch of smaller muscles that really make a difference in your skiing.

I go once a week; the trainer is a dancer, (and skier) and this babe has STRONG core muscles. I can do moves now that were impossible for me two years ago, but she just keeps giving me harder stuff to do; I always walk out of there sore!

I almost passed out, and it wasn't from the workout.

No shit. The mere thought of this even makes me throw up.

I'm sooooo friggen sore from Tuesday. Damn. This shit really works. I feel muscles that I didn't even know existed. Despite the soreness, I've been skiing really well the last couple of days. Hopefully this is indicative of a trend.

    Update:

OK, this is even better than I thought. Since I'm extremely lazy, I didn't wax my skis for our July 4th epic closing day at Mammoth. All day I was amazed at how I didn't need any wax. While my skis weren't exactly fast, they weren't sticking and tossing me around. I just chalked it up to good corn...until I looked at my bases. They were dryer than Chevy Chase in the middle of the Arizona desert. Hmmmm...

My core had felt super strong all day, but I just hadn't fully realized how much stronger it had gotten. I was super stable in conditions that would normally toss my upper body around like a rag doll. My balance is excellent again too. Oh and my fat ass has lost 10 pounds in the last couple of months. Needless to say, I'm hooked on pilates.

Just had to bump this, because I went to my first pilates session today!

And man was that good! I have been doing some Egoscue stuff after seeing a kinesiologist a while ago. But those started to get boring, and I could not feel that much of a difference... might be because I did not do them as often as I should (because they were boring... )

Struggled a bit with breathing correct, and using the right muscles at the right time. But I really felt that I used muscles that I almost never use... and I could feel those muscles that were overstretched in different crashes. Will probably do this 2 or 3 times a week. And a few with spinning a week I guess I will be in good shape after a while.

Guess it´s gonna help my skiing as well!

Was the only guy there, and lotta hotties... could be worse

I did pilates very intensley before the 04 season in utah. The results were amazing. My skiing improved dramatically especially in crud, wind blown and mash potatoes. The pow was effortless.

The chicks in my class were off the charts hot.

Getting in shape while staring at hot chicks so you can ski better.......
