No, I really don't. I wear skate shoes and flip flops most days, and the fashionistas would probably like the douchey Rolexes over a really nice but subtle watch, and a pair of pointy snake skin shit shows over a good pair of dress shoes with replaceable leather soles.
My thinking is that there is a big difference between fashion and quality. I am more than willing to buy expensive things that fall onto the quality side, but not so much things that fall on the fashionable side.
I'd wear a Rolex if I found one, or if one was given to me. I think I will shop for a replacement band for my $400 Luminox/Traser dive watch and start wearing it again
well yeah its just a good story eh just like the rationalization you are making an investment, the guy with the website selling/trading the Rolex's to ya is investing... you guy are just buying expensive toys
How you spend your shekels is up to you but I would call you on the BS and I will laugh at you if your ego makes the game go sideways for ya
Why all the hate about watches as an investment? People do it, some with great success, others lose their asses. If you know what you are doing you can make money, if you don't you are likely to lose money, no different as any investment. Some investments are just easier then others. Investing in mutual funds is pretty easy, investing in art, wine, tulips or watches...not so easy.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot
no hate just calling a spade a fucking shovel or perhaps more accurately a toy ... a toy
If all the trucks or roads or food stores dissappeared overnight we would have a big fucking problem but if all the Rolex's & Audi's dissappeared from the world ... some rich people would be late for work
that's a smart looking watch. love the blue face.
you may not be judged by your watch and your shoes, but many will think you're a tool if you wear a cheap digital watch (for fuck's sake get a stainless Seiko), and SHINE your shoes. Replace the heels and soles when they wear. If you don't you'll look like you don't know any better, and people will judge you for that root cause, if not the symptom itself.
What are people's thoughts on buy a used automatic watch? I know you are supposed to send them in for service every so often, the cost of which averages what? $500? Amazon vs and Authorized dealer?
I am looking for a more simple looking everyday automatic with a perpetual calendar, something like the Tag Carrera/Grand Carrera. I don't really have any use for a chronograph, has to be 100M rating or more, and around 40MM, give or take.
"We had nice 3 days in your autonomous mountain realm last weekend." - Tom from Austria (the Rax ski guy)
If by automatic you mean mechanical, then yes you can buy good quality used, but if you are laying out big dollars, then having it check by a reputable jeweler is a good idea.
The advantage of an authorized dealer is you are guaranteed of authenticity, not so much with buying off Amazon. There are gray market dealers with good and bad reputations. Good to some of the watch forums and search for info on some of the gray market dealers you are considering. They are also a good source for used watches, basically TGR for watches, and the people there are just as nuts as the people here. I am sure they have their own Jessie Jones', but like anything if you send some time there you get a feel of who's legit.
There are only about 10,000 watches that fit your description, but the TAGs are nice watches. If you want cheap, there are some nice Invicta watches, or you can get a solid gold Rolex for tens of grand.

Look dipshit, just go out and play with Joe Sawdust will you? This isn't the stock market, it's enjoying well made watches, and turning them when you get tired of them, sometimes making a couple of bucks, sometimes losing a few. Not a biggee, really. Find some other thread to cunt up will you please. Christ, was your NY resolution to be the village retard of TGR?
So anyway, retards notwithstanding, the deal for the Yachmaster went through, and I have a Yacht-Master, 40mm, Two-Tone, White Dial sitting in the winder. So very, very pretty. I still look at the blue / blue Submariner longingly, and did inquire about the Omega Seamaster (non chrono), but I thought $2250 was too dear - $1,500 would have had it in my pocket too, oh well.
Anyone have any IWC comments? A couple of nice ones in the case, but, of course, you take a deep breath when asking the price. Some nice Nardins and Hublots too, but I guess the year-end bonus will need to get an additional digit before I can laugh it off as a little personal toy.

" rolex watches...really?
Fck.
was looking for a mid priced watch around 3-400 bucks and they had the rollies on display.
Are they really worth the loot? I'd have to part with a kidney. The sales guy was talking about reselling used ones and the "used" market etc etc, like it was a fckn car.
I mean, they're definitely nice but i wear my watch every day. Are these the twice a year bling watch or could you actually abuse them? "
SO actualy that was how the thread started ^^ but you want to tell the class how cool you are with the expensive toys and you tell us its an investment an all
Ok so what I hear you admitting then is that rolex watches are NOT actualy an investment just something you need to look at on yer wrist whilst you attempt to jerk off an abnormaly small penis?
and we are coming to the part of the thread where I'm sposed to say something nasty about your mom ?

OK, it's probably impossible to type slow enough for you to be able to comprehend, but I can make a quick $250 extra on the $1850 I paid for a Breitling SuperOcean Heritage with SS braclet in October. Let me help you with this, as that equates to about 15% profit. Here' I'll type reeeeeaaaalllly slow now, and ask you if have bought anything recently where could make 15% in a couple of months.
So, assuming you've understood this far, that equates to being a nice little i.n.v.e.s.t.m.e.n.t. Simple, no? (Sadly I expect not).
Alternately, I'd get killed on my Breitling Aerospace, as I got it at 30% off retail, which would mean I'd lose probably $1k on it, but it was a long story.
Look this isn't blue chip stuff like GM or Enron stock, but the fact is that throughout time people like well make watches from premium materials that look really, really nice, and are willing to pay for them. While your local Joe Sawdust makes do with something for $12.99 from Wal-Mart, there's others willing to pay for some luxury. Really.
With the price I just got the Yacht-Master for, I could reasonably expect 5-7% profit if I sold it now. Not great, but it also functions to tell time and look pretty. Better than your Mom, right?
Look, I know this is hard for you, but that's the way it is - if you buy it right, you can make a few bucks, which makes it an investment. If you buy it wrong, it's not. So, so simple.

Do you have a retirement fund? At least in the six figures?
