WWMD - Issue with new lens

So the kit lens for the new 60D I got has something up against the side of the inner lens (beneath the outer glass). It's definitely bigger than a spec of dust, which is why I noticed it so easily. It probably has no affect now, but it seems big enough that if it dislodges or shifts onto the center of the lens it would show up in pictures going forward.

I emailed Canon to let them know and ask for a new replacement, but I imagine they're going to tell me to fuck off.

    You guys have any thoughts?

Store I got it from is on the East Coast, so going back to them isn't really an easy option.

Canon will probably have you send it in, and they'll fix it under warranty.

While it should be replaced by Canon or repaired since it is new, I wouldn't get all worried about it. A spec of dust probably will not degrade your image in the slightest unless maybe shooting at extremely narrow apertures.

This lens (that's chunks of tape, dirt and finger prints):

Here is the test. And there are plenty more like this out there for you to check out.

And if you didn't understand why I said you will only notice it at narrow apertures, here's a demo: http://digitalcomposting.wordpress.c...sible-pencils/
