    Louisiana TR

Yes, this TR is recycled from another board. But maybe you know I've been doing that for a while now.

    Holy shit.
    What a trip.

It was cold when we left, but we were headed for warmer climes.

    We drove east

and got on a big plane.

    We stopped for a beer

    and boarded a smaller plane.

Drove to another airport and got on a yet smaller plane.

We arrived, settled in, exchanged some gifts, and had dinner.

With a full belly, I took in the sights.
Lots and lots of dead shit.

This was the only thing I found that was related to fly fishing.

After some cocktails, we put on some fireworks.

We went to bed late that night.

The next morning everyone else was out duck hunting. I had some time to kill and wanted to catch some bass.

    Which boat should I take?

    It was cold and windy.
The lake was new to me and fairly big.
I fished like shit and caught nothing so I just cruised around and looked at stuff.

I heard later that if I had found the one deep spot in the whole lake I would have hammered them.
    Oh well.

The hunters started to trickle in.
    They were all wearing smiles.
The morning had been good to them.

After brunch, I flew out the door with my guide.
It was time to do what I came to do.

They don't see too many fly rods down there.
I told my guide that we were going to have a good time and I would be the easiest client he ever had. All he had to do was find the fish, I would take care of the rest.
I think he was a bit skeptical at first, but that didn't last long.
He found the fish pretty quickly, and I caught them.

I knew he was having a good time when he started texting pictures to the other guides.

I love trout fishing, but salt is different.
Trout don't make me giggle like a little girl every time I hook one.
    Reds do.

We gill fucked a few and killed them.

We weren't in bull territory, but I had my best day of redfishing yet.
    I fished well.

We shot some clays before dark.
I needed to knock some dust off.

We dined like kings and went to bed early.
Tomorrow would be a big day.

We rose well before the sun and made our plans.
It was my first time duck hunting. I had no idea what was going on.

I was taken on what was undoubtedly the scariest boat ride I've been on.
When we got to our blind it was calm, serene, and beautiful.

They gave me the rundown of how it would all happen.
We proceeded to shoot the shit out of some waterfowl until it was time for brunch.

After we filled up, it was time to leave this amazing place.
    Some left by boat.

    Others by plane.

A few hundred miles north, I was on my favorite bass lake.
It is one that I know well.
I had limited time, but I was able to complete my first cast and blast.

This fish was caught on gear and I do not feel bad about it.

    I slept well that night.

I had one more day of fishing.
The hardware stayed in the shed.

I caught a lot of fish that day, but nothing spectacular.

The remainder of my stay was spent with family and waiting in airports for flights that would ultimately cancel.
We got out much later than we planned.

I can't tell you how good it feels to be back home on my couch with my dog,
but I can still smell the marsh.

Fuck. Spent my first 18 years in that state and although i'll always love it, not many things make me want to jump in the car and go back. That did. Thanks.

What was the name of the place you guys stayed and is there anything you would do differently? Also, what dates were you there?

Seriously want to plan a duck and redfish on the fly trip next fall...hoping to not have to take a private plane, etc. and safe some bucks.
