    "Burn before you Turn"

Just reading the new Telemark Skier,
and Burn Before You Turn is Patagonia's new slogan (inside cover, page 1 of the mag).

Then, I get to Page 21, and the ad for www.backcountry.com touts "We Use the Gear we sell" and then tells me I need:
    1) technical outerwear
    2) avvy gear
    3) skis, boots, bindings
    and 4) a 420 KIT

Are they trying to tell me something???

P.S. - I searched the www.backcountry.com site for a "420 Kit" and I came up empty. Is that false advertising?

I've seen that Backcountry ad as well. I think all that stoner "420" bullshit is well,.....BULLSHIT. I hate that stuff.

I think places lose a lot of credibility when they market that stoner shit.

    Uhhh....what do you think?...er wait....nevermind.

Patagucci has a lot of marijuana street cred these days. The top dogs in the office headquarters are smokin' ski bums themselves...can't you tell?

nah ScottG, we're sold out of the Burton kits - like 2000+ of them we've burned through.

    Try the Bakoda Herbalizer Kit

Here's the product description on the Burton - the page won't show since it's out of stock:

Is it 4:20 yet? Regardless, Burton’s 420 Kit is on time, every time. It was built with you and your lifestyle in mind... crush-resistant and watertight for raucous riding, and with a place for an extra lighter since yours always disappears. Burton knows it’s sometimes hard to stay organized, so they’ve taken care of everything for you with this well-designed and handy kit. It even includes a removable stash sack and elastic loops to secure pre-rolled delights. A removable baggie seals in freshness. Conveniently sized for low-bulk carry, about the size of a thick wallet..

I enjoy burning as much as the next white person with dreadlocks, but it seems pretty irresponsible for them to be marketing the idea of getting high before going out.
    More gauze pads, please hurry!

Is my sarcasm detector way off, or do some of you really not get the slogan?

    Who said anything about before?

As a non-burn kinda guy, I was blown away that Burton makes these and that people buy them like mad - I mean they fly outta here faster than hot-cakes. Unreal.

Thanks. Glad to know you have the gear for the backcountry.
    I stand corrected.
    No false advertising at backcountry.
Keep up the good work - nice sale prices on your site this week!

woah that kit looks a lot better than the burton one. the burton one is ok, but the baggy sucks, and the zipper breaks imediately. both are easily modded, but still.

Although the product works well I'd agree that the stoner marketing is a bit much, although Burn before you turn is much more original then lame 420 references.

In fairness to PataGucci, the pic is of a dude hiking for turns.

"Thigh Burn" is what they are saying
. . . but what they mean with that double entendre is another matter.

When you have Tanner Hall "professional" (sarcasm meter off scale) athletes who promote pot smoking as part of the identity of skiing...

Seems kind of risky from a legal stand point as well. They are not even trying to claim it's for tobacco. If I were them I'd be carefull not to end up like Tommy Chong.

What's the over/under? 3 pages, 4 pages? Being as the Tanner card was just pulled I'm thinking 4 pages.

I'm responsible for some of this nonsense. But really, the stoner marketing schtick really "burns" me up.

    Hi Duder,
Just curious if you think alcohol is bullshit as well and if you feel the same about this type of marketing towards alcohol?
