Think Europe / UK - they gamble on EVERYTHING and make us in the US look downright innocent in that regard with our NFL bets and fantasy stuff. You'd be amazed by how much action Wimbledon gets every year.

The - numbers do mean the favorite. In this case it means you would have to bet $666 to win $100. Conversely, a + number is what you would win if you bet $100. For example a +1200 means for $100 bet, you would win $1200. IE, huge underdog.

It hasn’t been clinched too early in the season. There is always 500 points still up for grabs the last week of the season at World Cup Finals.
All depends on the disciplines of those chasing Shiffrin.
At this point in the season the Tech racers have an advantage based on the number of completions they have had verses the speed specialist. These numbers should balance out before the Olympics.

Too bad the race times weren't shown. It would have been interesting to compare the ladies' and men's times. Racing Shiffrin and Myhrer against each other would have been fun to watch, too.

Eh, for what it's worth, Enak Gavaggio, a very strong skier but obviously far from an elite alpine racer, ran a world cup SL (Zagreb 2015) 12% slower than Mikaela and a GS (Val d'Isère 2016) 20% slower than Alexis Pinturault.
From the look of it, it could have been much worse. His form is so much worse.

Since this thread is off the tracks : I'm always amazed to see how few women are involved in the organization and coaching side of women ski racing. I don't think there's a single female in the briefing room, for the bib draw in Zagreb...

Mikaela's mother is an exception. I suspect most world cup woman transition to motherhood rather than coaching after completing their racing careers. Not exactly a kid-friendly job.

The dual format is maybe 22 seconds and almost completely non-technical- no rhythm changes. In previous years the top womens times have been within ~0.5-1 second of the top men.

Mikaela has an outside chance to break Tina Maze's record point total from 2013. Maze won in all 5 disciplines that year.

Yup. Here (UK) you can bet on just about anything you want right down to in-play events like who will take the next corner in football (soccer). Want to bet on some random waterpolo event? They'll be a market on betfair.

I actually thought the SL would be much worse. He actually didn't look much worse than when you see some DH specialists in a combined getting crushed by the SL specialists. And I think Gavaggio beat some WC skiers in at least one X Games skiercross years ago. Pretty instructive to see him down to Mikaela by about 12 seconds.

Of course, Mikaela's arms are flailing so much...

She has trouble with pull-ups. She sucks.

Looked like you were right. Remarkable.

Is Stuhec's mother her coach, or just her ski tech? I know she is the only female ski tech (men's and women's). I think she might be the only one in WC history.

USST has at least one female coach as I remember she became the first women to ever set a course last year.

Have to assume that if women like Vonn or Shiffrin (or guys like Ligety, Ganong, etc.) wanted women coaches they would be hired, though.
