Whether it was her injury and crash last year and recovery, or her death of her father and all, and now this, l just read her post that she mentions to the best of her and her teams review what she said about the cause and where in the crash she things she was impaled:

Her own words: "There’s been a lot of speculation about what caused the puncture wound…and a lot of discussion around the “clean hill initiative”. Some are saying the b-net pin, some are saying the base of the gate, some are speculating about the backpack next to the b-net. Of course, I am fully in support of more safety measures on hill. But, I think in my case, the damage was done before I got close to the net…and in addition to my own coaches and the volunteers who helped me, I want to thank Jojo (coach for Switzerland) who was first to get to me and helped soo so much. After reviewing the video several times, we think it was the tip of my ski pole…given the size and shape of the point of entry. Maybe it pierced in, and then I rolled over it which is what dug out the small cavern… hard to say, really. We’re just glad it’s limited to muscle damage."

So while she does mention that the B fencing and the backpack probably should have not been there, she thinks what a few have speculated on here that it seems most likely it was a ski pole tip.

Wish her all the best as she recovers and hopefully avoids any infection and there is no muscle damage that is a result. She also of course is thankful that her organs were not involved and are in tact.

There is a pretty graphic photo of her area of the injury both on her Instagram and Facebook official page:

    A lot of class.

I think ski tip pole is most likely as well after watching that a few times.

What a freak injury. That could happen to anyone. Of course at her speed it was more severe.

The answer is tennis balls on the tips of these ski poles. Or why even use them. Those kids that do spinny twisty stuff don't need them!

    Yup.

The lacerated liver happened when I was literally just skiing down a cat track. It was foggy and I skied off a two-metre widow-maker into a creek bed and just gut flipped myself into the frickin’ hospital.

Anyone recall which Stump film it was that he talked about that injury on camera?

Many videos of kids- teens and Gen X doing videos on social media or You Tube after they have undergone dental surgery and wisdom teeth removals. Some are really funny and silly while still not completely recovered from the anesthesia...

There was a death at my local ski hill 10 years ago when there was a collision between a senior and a teenager, the senior was punctured by a ski pole (and suffered a heart attack which caused the collision). I'm not sure if the death was a result of the puncture or the heart attack or both.

The ski hill had to clean up the blood before re-opening the trail

Great article. He doesn’t “work out”, but he’s always doing something, and when he isn’t, his body is recovering.

Nothing new about this trend. There’s been some pretty hilarious stuff - usually after wisdom teeth. The teenaged girl Bengals fan one is classic:

I am not sure, but I think it is a problem with the TGR-branded app and is not fixable. Because the app is not supported and isn't even available for androids (but I think is still in the apple app store, but shouldn't be). That's my understanding, though I could be wrong.

Woke up middle of night, and couldn't get back to sleep, so watched the whole thing. Jesus, that wound, at around the 7 minute mark! Yikes! Guess it coulda been worse, but that's a gory one!

I hope she heals up without further complication, and look forward to her return to racing when she's ready to get back to it!

Man, watching that video on the surgery has brought back some old memories. Damn. I'm glad she is on the path to a full and successful recovery.

In the Peacock broadcast of today's women's downhill in St. Anton, Austria at just after 34 minutes they had recent footage of Shiffrin making some turns on a groomer, I think at Beaver Creek. She wasn't race training, but she was moving smoothly and seemingly without pain.

She's been training GS. I can confirm that. It wasn't at Beaver Creek though.

Is that going to be considered win 100, or does it need to be an individual event?

IIRC, Worlds typically don’t count in the official tally for WC Ws - same with Olympic Ws. Only FIS World Cups are being tracked for one hundred.

Yeah, it's just World Cup that 99 is tracking. If you include World Championships and Olympics, she has 109 victories.
