    anybody with car knowledge?

My car was broken into last night and the door to the gas tank was left open. I don't see any sugar or anything when I remove the gas cap, but my car won't start. It will turn over but it won't catch. When I do try and and start it, it smells strongly of gas. I got the Ventura Police coming over now to fill out a report.

Any ideas of what the perps might have done to my car??

I haven't owned a car in a long ass time so I'm not sure what the procedures are as far as insurance and if the car is toast what happens as far as my payments but I figure getting a police report filed is a good first step. Next I'm gonna call AAA and have it towed so I can figure out exactly what the story is. Then call Progressive and find out what the situation is with insurance.

    FACK!!!!

Your avatar should sum up the insurance situation nicely. Just hope they use lube...

I don't know what type of vehicle you have but on many vehicles there is an automatic fuel cut off in the event of an accident. ( the act of breaking in could perhaps trigger it) Look in your manual for where the reset is and check it out.

does it have gas in the tank? Did they siphon all of it out? Take a look at the fuel filter maybe?

it cant be this ^^^ because if it was out of gas or the fuel filter was clogged than it wouldnt smell of gas when you try to start the car.. there is obviously fuel coming through..

is there evidence that the guys who broke into your car tried to start it?

my guess is that its flooded... if you keep trying to start the car and it never turns over you will eventually flood it with gasoline and then its fucked. so either they flooded it, or they fucked up something on your car so that it wont start and you flooded it..

anyways thats my best guess.....GOOD LUCK MAN

Bastids stole my fuel pump...or...fuel injector...or fuel...something. when I'd try to start the car it was spraying gas on the engine. Now I gotta wait for the In surance company to get back to me monday to have my cah towed to an acceptable garage and have the total damage assesed. Frickin sucks. Oh well. Que sera sera.

That's odd, first xenon lights, now cold start injectors? What kind of car is it?

    x2 ^^^^^

    weird...

fuel injectors arn't a dime a dozen but they aren't exactly expensive either $40 to $150, wierd that there would be a blackmarket for them. What else did they do to your car? Damage the fuel rail too?

I know about as much about engines as I know about balforian symmetry and steel wool merkins...and that means "not so much". I honestly don't even know what they stole out the engine, I'll find out monday.
