Freeskier is starting a new mag

Just got this email tonight, sounds like a new FREEZE. Not supprosing after hearing rummors that it was going to happen.

Storm Mountain Publishing Company Launches New Ski Magazine
    Matt Harvey Named Editor

Boulder, CO (February 15, 2005) - Storm Mountain Publishing Company (SMP),
parent of Freeskier Magazine, Freeskier.com and Fantasy Freeride League,
is launching a national ski title exclusively for the hard-core, teen
market. It was announced today by SMP President & CEO Bradford Fayfield.

The new magazine will speak directly to skiers ages 12-18 and focus on
editorial strictly relevant to the youth market. The magazine's production
will thrive on a raw, edgy look and feel, breaking traditional publishing
    standards with each issue.

Freeskier's Matt Harvey will serve as the editor of the new magazine and
website. Harvey is extremely well-respected by today's young park and pipe
skiers, and is best known for founding the popular freeskiing website
    "Newschoolers.com" and for re-launching "Freeskier.com."

"This magazine is going to be the most raw and uncut editorial ever
produced for the newschool rider," said Harvey. "Much of the edit will
come directly from pros, amateurs and randoms alike. It will be unpolished
    - straight from the underground ski scene and into the hands of our
    readers."

Fayfield said that the new magazine will be a perfect compliment to
Freeskier, which targets skiers ages 18-30 and employs more diverse
editorial. Freeskier's edit ranges from the terrain park to the
    big-mountain scene to the bar.

"The new magazine will help promote freeskiing to the youngest segment of
skiers," said Fayfield. "There's an obvious void for a magazine that
speaks exclusively to the very young, core grommet - and this magazine
will fill that void. This is about the future of our sport."

The magazine will launch nationwide this fall. More details will follow
regarding the title, staff, frequency and circulation.

If the new title serves the 12-18 market, what exactly is the Freeskiier target audience?

    WE SKI??

At least Skiing magazine didn't turn into "32 Degrees" and include skiing and snowboarding. (That seriously was their plan )

it would be nice to see Freeskier wean off of the high-school jib scene quite a bit - their most recent article was the 10 best skiers, which was dominated by jibbers (Tanner Hall being #1); summer jib camps; and lots of jibbing pictures. A small article on going to Portillo Chile, and Seth Morrison's and Hugo Harrison's inclusions in the "bestest skiers" article were pretty much the only big-mountain, actual skiing contributions to that issue.

Basically, they've become what Freeze was about 4 years ago - dominated by jibbing, but still lying to themselves that they have big-mtn coverage too.

anyway, it'd be nicer to see them wean off. let's just hope Brad Holmes doesn't get a home there too.

    cr = jibber

as does pep, jon, and candide.

forgot about Sage, and in the past Abma has primarily been a jibber. He's had one film segment that wasn't all jibbing...

Magazine falls flat on its face cause it doesn't make enough money. So lets start a mag just like the one that failed? Sound like a great venture to me, not!

Do people actually still say, "not!"? Wow... Anyhow, the "failure" of Freeze had nothing to do with it not being a viable magazine but everything to do with the lack of a circulation editor for years, number-crunchers making unrealistic assumptions about the ski industry, and politics within the Transworld publishing giant... There's a ton of money and exposure floating around the jib scene -- unlike the big mountain side of things. Its not hard to notice that... X-Games, Gravity Games, US Open, etc...
    OOOOOOOHHHH, I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!

do you really need me to quote each segment he's had over the last 2 or 3 years?

    I'd suggest watching Yearbook...he's there!
