Coastal EC still reeling and needs assistance. Photos.

Headed to my favorite surf beach to help out yesterday. The devastation is pretty overwhelming and people are in need. First we dropped off space heaters at an old folks home in Brighton where they have power but no oil. Black hawks in the sky, rotten fish all over the streets. It was a mess, but didn't prepare us for the Rockaways. People out there have nothing and they are extremely worried about the cold this week.

If you have some time, and the skiing and surf both suck next week please consider helping. People need help throwing all of their ruined furniture and walls, running food deliveries, sorting clothes to get the coats separated from the bullshit summer stuff because the donations are all mixed, etc and etc.

This report is valid for Coney, Staten, and the Jersey Shore, too.

    Throw, throw, throw, your stuff.

The boardwalk, luckily, is intact. It's just three blocks from where it should be and in the middle of a street.

Like Venice, but with more garbage.

Oh, this is where I parked.

Under the boardwalk, we'll be getting some rays.

I didn't think it was possible to shut down these generic chinese places, but there you have it.

    It's eclectic out here.

    No foo.

    Wild south shore.

As organized as the last Barney's Basement sale.

    Better times ahead.

That's sad. I wish there was an easy way to donate some of my old winter gear to help out. Anyone have a reputable local charity they recommend for cash donations?

Piggity - I am going to find out for you. It's really tough out there because there is no organized presence. All the work is being done by people rolling up their sleeves.

    See: http://rockawayhelp.com/

I don't mean to ignore staten island either. It's harder for me to get to but they are in rough shape too. http://gothamist.com/2012/11/04/cry_...we.php#photo-1
