I wouldn't have dogs in coyote cuntry if they weren't capable of dealing with coyotes, bears or mountain lions. I've had close encounters with contact with both. Dogs came out on top.

We really need Pio to "weigh" in on the whole trout fishing thing.

Kinda interesting reading a conversation largely held by members of a culture that, if not actively promotes, at least condones lethal force in the defence of their property against members of their own species.

Just a mild troll. And ya, taking individual sentiment and applying it broadly is reaching more than a tad.

But interesting nonetheless. Taking a life is taking a life - all that changes is the justification.

Consistency demands that Mazd let a burglar go about their natural burglarizing because property is an arbitrary concept and coyotes are fish that eat pets?

Does Leavenworth have to change his bathrobe atire before standing his ground? Only if the burglar is trying to steal his dog?

    Yeah the ironing is thick.

I wouldn't use lethal force to keep someone from stealing my stuff, but if they tried to enter my home when I was in it? Not sure what would happen.

I keep an expired can of Bear Spray handy as a 1st response but there is also a loaded pistol handy.

So the GF is organizing the annual silent retreat and this year she has run into a problem where a nest of hornets has occupied one of the cabin at the mountain ranch, its normaly a no brainer to get rid of hornets but the buddist who owns the place will not ... a sentient being is a sentient being

    Two t's in attire.

Woody's robe is either made from some high tech fiber and comes from Mountain Equipment or it's Real Tree camo and sold by Cabela's. No change required.

Summit, the studies I have read show a much greater mortality rate than what you posted.

I have fly fished for a long time and anymore I crimp my barbs so aggressively that if I give the fish a good bit of slack they self release.

To me the moment that counts is the strike and the set, once they are hooked they are pretty much caught, at least in my mind, so why not let them off ASAP, i know what a trout looks like, don't need anymore stinkin pictures. As for eating them, if a trout is from a high mountain lake it has decent flavor. The river fish around here have all the flavor of a chunk of cardboard.

If a fish cannot spit the fly after a bunch of attempts at slacking the line I will get it in close and cut the line.

I shoot gophers as soon as the enter into my yard. Does that make me an asshole? Don't really care.
Interesting on your fishing technique and outlook.

On the numbers, you are probably better read than I am.

The cougars are only prolific here in the Yakima valley during spring barrel tasting.

I will post some pictures of the entire coyote slaying attire. All my camo gear is from First Lite. To suggest I would own any Cabela's clothing is insulting. Far too low speed for me.

Yes, the frolic zone skiing is excellent when the snowpack is fat.

i'm pretty sure i know more about fishin than the two of ya combined
probably cause i do it more than twice as much
    them #ers are way high
no way in hell are that many fish dieing on any catch and release waters specially the green
most literature i can find on trout are 3-4 %
now factor in bait dunkin which isn't allowed on most catch and release water cause it doesn't fuckin work
and piss poor handling techinquies and warmer water temps yes maybe those #ers rise
but its not that hard to catch and release fish with a low mortality rate
i'd bet mine is sub 1%
but it takes a lot to kill a carpz

How many fish do you think are caught and released per year?

33 million anglers fish 553 million fishing-days per year in the US. Say half of them C&R 1 fish every other day at 2% mortality... that is an insanely conservative estimate... 2.8 million dead C&R fish per year.

Deep Ecology minded preservationist bleeding hearts should lose their shit over that.

Come on BCM, look at my signature, people for the most part are fucking retards and a virus to the planet (thank you Agent Smith). Knocking off the idiots is doing the world a favor.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

From a conservationist point of view, I C&R is fine. It allows fishing in areas where it would otherwise be forbidden or only by limited permit. Thus you get huge economic boosts to rural areas and enjoyment for sportsmen and women...

The appreciation for the wilds and the subsequent influence for conservation generated by fishing far outweighs dead C&R fish... but humane C&R with good technique and barbless hooks should be the way to minimize morbidity and mortality. I know you've forgotten more about fishing than I'll ever know. Sounds like your technique is solid.

My issue is the I see the same warped preservationist ideal that is espoused by people like Mazz also applied to justify retarded exclusions like kicking bikes out of trails or closing 4WD roads and ultimately making the wilds more exclusive... concentrating users.

Ultimately this gets fewer people into the wilds and drives some more urban dwellers into the same worship of the twisted ideals... but most people respond by not caring about places they cannot go and will never see and the USFS budget gets cut again.
