    The Latest
Friday, December 10, 4 PM ... We will open for the season on Friday, December 17.
What happened to our opening this weekend? We lost power last night to our snowmaking system at 1 AM. We were having our biggest night ever, ready to run for over 12 hours, go again tonight and look to have upper mountain skiing for Saturday. A low voltage 'dip' from our power company hit our new pump house and shut it down. When that happens we have to shut the entire system down and restart, which was impossible due to the time of night and how long it takes to fire up a system the size of ours. We needed 2-3 really big nights so losing last night cost us the opportunity to open this weekend. But we'll continue making snow every time we get the temps even though we see a huge storm coming our way.
This storm is forecasted to roll inTuesday and is expected to drop up to four feet of snow in the Sierra, which would open most if not the entire mountain by the time we open on Friday, December 17.
Here is how our operating schedule looks right now:
    Friday, December 17 - Monday, December 20
    Thursday, December 23 - Monday, January 3
Starting January 3, 2022, we will operate Thursday through Monday for the remainder of the season. (Closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays).
Season Passes are still at a discounted rate. For help, email seasonpasses@skichinapeak.com. If you paid for having your passes mailed to you but have not yet received them odds are about 95% you have not filled out the on line waiver!

    Central California

    today was good at DR

power was out so all chairs were on aux which makes slow chairs slower

buddy and I somehow got first chair on 3 without even trying - we rolled up to nobody there and a hundred folks stacked up behind us - first tracks down the face

    5 and 7 way late

    8 no go

we skied like it was the 70’s while other people waited for other chairs to open

we managed to find fresh tracks everywhere all day

the summer logging projects were very good for opening up terrain

    it was cold

Yeah. I skied there with H and E for a few years before we got the place in BV. Really liked it. We were there for the big snows in 2012.

    Christmas Bear Valley

Riding and Skiing was all deep, limited, and fresh resets all day long at Bear Valley on Christmas Saturday. The wife cut me loose and no family obligations allowed a free day to play. Visibility was limited, cold, and windy so it was really like winter. Quarter size flakes all the way down to Avery on the drive out. Many thanks to the drivers who kept there sh@t together on the drive down the mountain...white knuckles and white out!

    Santa made it out.

End of the day visibility was challenging, like the drive down the mountain, but totally worth it!

so my work schedule / patient load just fell apart around me this morning - 5 of 7 were either a No Show or Cancellation

I just went with it and rolled out of the hospital at noon - on the snow a little after one

managed a couple laps hiking up and out of the area and a couple groomers

the sky wasn’t as blue today as yesterday but the freshies and the groomers were awesome

Thursday at Dodge Ridge. Hadn't been there in 19 years. It hasn't changed much. It's cool that Sierra passholders can ski unlimited midweek this season. Wife and I had a good time exploring.

Already really firm off piste, but they do a surprising amount of grooming there. North-facing ungroomed but skied-in stuff was still good to go.

It was nice to ski someplace that wasn't a complete shit show like Tahoe has been. Skied right onto the chairs most runs.
"Holy Cow!" someone exclaimed from the back of the stationwagon.
