Nice work guys!
looks like I have another book to read
Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care
Put me down for an advance copy. I'll be out there in one month can't fuckin wait
I should be at bridger this time next we. Maybe I could get an early copy.
Thanks for the kind words fellas. If you would like to pre-order a copy, could you please send us an email at stepping-up@hotmail.com with your information. That way we can better serve customers when we actually have the books in hand and are arranging payment/shipping details.
Awesome, good work guys!
Does anyone actually know if squallywood or crested buttes extreme limits guide has led to a lot more tracks? this sort of thing worries me
you can see virtually every line in squallywood from the lifts. if you are rad enough to ski those lines, its likely you would anyways. you just might not know what they are called, and what movies you can see them skied in. and of course you wouldn't be aware of what the line score or hero factor is.Originally Posted by lameduck
i still think its got to encourage a lot more people to go try em. maybe just so you know the name and can claim it.
Way to get after the dream Freak! Congrats on achieving the final product and getting some more published ski material out on the market.

its not as if people look at the cliff and say, man i wish i knew what thats called. if i did, then i'd huck it. but since i don't know the name, i wont.

and for you, who just wont ski anything in view of a lift, which eliminates 90% of the terain at squaw.
Is the ropetow still there? By 1979 they wouldn't let the public use it, but in 1974/75 they did.

i have skied squaw, and i remember walking over those big rock towers they have all over the place to get to lines in view of the lift. stuff definitely not easy to find

The hike has been moved from Pearly Gates to Patrolmans. Since the move, the old rope tow for patrol has been taken out and a new Poma lift has been installed. There is no public access on the Poma.Originally Posted by Buster Highmen
seriously though, has anyone noticed a marked increase in tracks on harder to find stuff after these sorts of guides have come out?
lameduck, i hear what you're sayin...but i'm guessing the only people that buy, read, and learn stuff from books about skiing tech lines are the people that ski the tech lines to begin with. if i were at bridger, squaw, etc. on a powder day, i am going to be in line/hiking early and will find stuff to ski whether i have read the book about the place or not.
doubtful gapers that don't ski these or similar lines already will pick up a copy and change their approach to the sport.
I have no clue as to how it works in the US, but in La Grave, Chamonix and similar places such guidebooks have been around for ages. They don't really bring more people; those who have anything to do in certain lines go whether the book is around or not, those who shouldn't go get in trouble and/or get hurt anyways and don't come back. The whole marketing focus on the freeride thing / car commercials using freeride skiing images / the coming of fat skis etc. is a much bigger problem imo. Heck, in the Alps my guess is that like more than 75% of the bums or more (even in a place like Chamonix) don't even own such books, and the ones who do are generally the people who'd find stuff anyways. Just my .02 euros though.Originally Posted by lameduck

that makes me feel better. still worried that these guides are going to pop up at all the off-the-map places though, and ultimately bring more people who dont have much imagination
PM a reminder when you get here warty (&pollard), we'll exchange our hurricane survival stories- my mom-in-law is still waiting on the last of her mobile home parts from Charley- that sucked....
"freeride" next week in this area- bridger gully...

b-gully is pretty fun. Lots of varied stuff in there. By far my favorite area of the hill...
is 3 Bears be comp terrain too? It'd make for a good exit.
