Alright, the time has finally come. I can now officially announce the project that has been under wraps for years (and I couldn't keep it hidden in the Books forum any longer). MT and I are publishing a book entitled: Stepping Up – A Guide to The Ridge at Bridger Bowl
Copies will be in my grubby hands by March 9th and promptly shipped
Here are some of the highlights:
- 100 page account of the lines off The Ridge
- Foreword by Scot Schmidt
- Closing by Dr. Robb Gaffney
- Interview with Tom Jungst
- 75 photos, including aerial shots of marked possible descents. Shots of Jim Conway, Tom Jungst, Scot Schmidt and many other local skiers.
The book started to take rough shape about 5 years ago. When I started working on the project, it was solely for my own pleasure. I would sit down and take notes on the lines that I skied off The Ridge. It quickly grew in length as I skied more and more lines. Finally, I talked to MT and proposed that he help me polish it. Since that time MT and I have been documenting, taking photos and gathering information.
The book could not have been possible without the help of many. Many a maggot chipped in, I feel very lucky to have their help. To name a few:
fez – building our website as we speak,
MountainMan – encouraging us all the way
basewelder – providing endless knowledge about The Ridge,
slip – supplying photos and connections in the industry,
oldtimer – kicking us in the ass to get this out there & providing more industry contacts
splat - helping us out with photo/skier legal issues and possibly helping us market this on pmgearusa.com.
The list goes on.
I cannot begin to tell you how stoked I am on how the ski community comes together. Everyone we talked to was very supportive and willing to help wherever they could. And we needed all the help we could get. Scot Schmidt and Robb Gaffney were unbelieveable. I would have never thought that lowly maggots like ourselves could get buyin from the pros. Neither of us have ever done this sort of thing. It turned out to be a huge learning experience.
I hope you all will find the book interesting. Pick up a copy!
