Wood-splitting devices don't change much over the years, it wouldn't kill you to find and bump a year-old thread. There's a lot of people out there splitting wood with their grandfather's axes. I could have given you the "search function JONG," or even "tech talk JONG" reply but I was trying to be helpful. Anyway, this thread was originally about cutting wood, not splitting wood. Splitting hairs, I know.

Carry on, I am sure I will read whatever you talk about.

listen asshole I don't care if your using the wrong tool for the job (a jack of all trades usually sucks at everything and will use the wrong tool), but I saw someone else post that they had bought a new ax to split wood and I was wondering how many other people were doing this.

^^^ Buddy, we're talking about about firewood here. Take a chill pill. If you have an axe to grind, take it somewhere else. Otherwise, let's bury the hatchet and move on.

Your season is over because of that? Doesn't look that bad... You catch that in with the maul or what? I feel like I come close to doing that whenever I'm out splitting kindling after a few.

I'm sure I'll be back to it in a month or so, ~20 ton hydraulic log splitter, went clean through, that little flap near my thumb is all that's holding it on. Could be way worse, but hand surgeon is still saying he might have to remove it.

Most woodchucks around here have quit chucking wood for the season.
In order to properly convert this thread to a polyasshat thread to more fully enrage the liberal left frequenting here...... (insert latest democratic blunder of your choice).

I'm not sure what I'm looking at there... near your thumb? Looks like your index finger... Either way - with the hydro splitter? Was somebody else controlling it? I've come close to catching a hand in there a couple times and that shit hurts! Best of luck with that.

thats my 1st thot? The electric splitter I used had a button you push with the right hand to start the pump and a lever you pull with your left to run the ram so it was not possible to get a hand caught

This splitter is about 50 years old and lacks anything resembling a safety feature.

Yea, index finger, i meant the bit still connected on the side where my thumb resides.

I wish i could, with the meds im on i discovered it was a rather fruitless activity, and it wasnt due to lack of trying.

I have chopped very little wood and when I did it was usually for a fire that night. Not sure if this is a good idea for chopping a bunch but it looks good.

^^^ not sure why you'd want to split it that small unless you were just making kindling. I'd split that log into 1/4's or 1/3's, which kind of defeats the purpose of bothering with the bungee. My wood also doesn't split any where near that easily.

That makes sense. Everytime I split wood it was for camp fires and it always turned out to be 1/3 roughly but for those that do this on the reg I didn't know if this was a handy idea. I'm sure some small wood stoves couldn't handle 1/3-1/2 logs. But what do I know really?
