I swear I was thinking the same exact thing. I'm from the east but, from Dec-April I check winter/snow forecasts like e-mail...eh, more like porn. I had been stalking TWD for 2 years + In the past it seemed to be much less hype and much more straight-forward. It seems now the ambiguity keeps bringing me back....to diminishing forecasts. He could have been just as excited as we were, but I wonder what happened to the old TWD guy that would just say something along the lines of "its aint gonna happen." Maybe it is just negativity winning-out, I'm not sure. But I, too am sick of the well we could get light snow on the mountains or 1-2 feet. WTF? Yet I keep going back.......!

BA needs to go back to twd.com

I think the open snow BS is putting too much pressure on him to make his forecasts look more appealing to the weekend warrior types...

That and he seems to be taking a beating in the reader comments sections, completely unnecessary.

The damn pop ups on open snow are enough to piss me off. I don't like that site but I still check in to see what's up with the long range, MJO, etc. Within 10 days its not really giving me anything I can't get from NOAA, and I prefer NOAA.

The models are available to everybody and not that hard to interpret. As are the NWS forecast discussions. Reading the Sacto vs. Reno office gives points of comparison too.

BA is decent, but he isn't the only game in town. Only the most accessible.

Ed Berry's teleconnections "forecasts" were sick before he stopped blogging.

Shitty snow year and everyone is down on the local forecaster. Big shocker. I don't think it has anything to do with OpenSnow vs. TWD.

the storm in the beginning of February seemed real enough to me. There will be more powder days in the future. We're not done yet.

I don't remember the TWD forecasts being so optimistic 100% of the time. (Same forecaster then, IIRC.) Open Snow forecasts, in contrast, seem like they are always calling for huge dumps, but so far out in the future that there's no way they can be accurate.

BA was the exact same way early last year, trying to be optimistic during the worst start to the season, well, ever. The old "possible change in 10-14 days" means we're skunked out as far as the forecasts are really any good . And yeah, if you want more info, the models are all out there for you to get if you want to take a look yourself. Unfortunately it doesn't help the snow come any sooner or more.

sorry crap season was my fault. after 15 years living here and just using a push shovel i finally bought a snow blower after that big xmas storm. never had to fire it up once and now its just taking up space in my garage.
wonder if 2 blanks in a row will stop all the tourons buying season passes....i certainly hope so.

Now that i have exhausted my 2 "leaves of absence" I will be forced to be a rare visitor. With the Kirkwood Pass now gone (well, drastically inflated) I will not be buying the Epic, just sticking to the Mountain Collective. (Which hasn't done shit for me, this year.)

Don't blame your snowblower purchase.....it didn't create last season. I'll take the blame.....or we can just blame BA!

i moved away from tahoe immediately after the 2011 season.

we then had two of the worst snow years on record...

i think you guys should buy me a house in tahoe, so i can move back and end the madness.
    Still waiting...

Conditions weren't horrible today, once the refreeze from yesterday's rain softened up. Not-quite-spring corn up Granite Chief way.

Hopefully I won't get the smack down for posting Kirkwood pics in the Tahoe thread.
But today at Kirkwood definitely did not suck.

Today definitely would receive a grade of exceeded expectations. Great company, smooth snow, empty runs.

Muthafuckas, if it wern't for a damned mod thigh contusion from a bludgeon from a reef due to dumb ass underestimating of small waves, I'd been there today and car shuttling with Shralphs tommora. Damn rocks. Looks like it was fun today. And G2A even shussing the s.s.shore. Maybe by Sunday I'll be ready. Hope we get a little snow.

And why the hell are there so many grumpy folks around here. I barely get to ski anymore and I still had a shit ton of powder this winter so far. Greedy mothafuckas want too much.

Oh, and I like Js twitter shot from atop ski skool. Looks pretty sweet. Wind buff.

In unrelated news I also dropped the bike off for a tune up. It would be sick if they opened the gate to the martis lookout soon so I could start getting in some tri sport days in
