If you got it fresh, it was good. Things were rough in the afternoon. Kwood was pretty empty. First tracks down Once @ 1:15pm was a surprise. Was going for a Spur lap at 2pm, but the Kfactor kicked in with nasty winds and snow.

The "rain avoidance obligatory Mammoth Easter rally" worked out well this weekend. Saturday worked out as a mini Mammoth mini with a meetup by Gone2Alpine, Unpossible, Vets, JLA415 and another mag from San Diego. Saturday was a perfect spring day with corn on southern exposures and chalky goodness on northern exposure. The Avi Chutes were silky smooth, protected by some tricky entrances. Wipeouts and Paranoids were also in prime spring shape. Sunday started off with 4 inches of pow, and eventually ended at about 6 inches...far better than Tahoe rain. Upper mountain closed but Chair 5 delivered all morning, then a return to Avi Chutes when Chair 5 and 3 became socked in with fog. Well worth the rally...

Had an amazing day at kwood today. Spread my father-in-laws ashes a few different locations on the mountain & had pow laps after each place. Today was his birthday & was the 1st time I was able to ski with him. Even my last lap down the palisades sign line was amazing. 6" of pow on 6" of slushy rain soaked corn ended up being hero snow.

Happy birthday Kevin Chapman, thanks for turning the rain to snow last night & making it a pow day. I rode my favorite lines today & hoped you enjoyed the turns with me.

and i doubt 6" on the lower of mammoth was better than 6-8" at all of kirkwood, but i've never gotten that excited about mammoth

^ I don't have a Kirkwood pass. I do have a Mammoth pass. Yes, Kirkwood is better than everywhere, always. Everyone and all of their friends should buy passes at Kirkwood. Please help spread the word.

    is alpine?

in fact, since we know south lake tahoe (meyers actually) is the center of tahoe, i would say alpine is way farther

I wish Alpine was not, but part of it is under the jurisdiction of TRPA due to being a part of the Tahoe watershed. Sorry for poisoning your thread with Mammoth stoke. In my book, all ski stoke is good and the Tahoe thread has been pretty dead lately...

They can't. Now that it is Vail, it is too expensive for everyone to buy passes. And the food still blows. But costs more.

BTW, you two need a ski off. On Neutral ground. Bear Valley?

LOL Ottime. There is no doubt that Powdork would win. I am just a mediocre skier from a mediocre mountain. I do have extensive snowlerblade experience so that might help. My dogs will never be as cool as Nacho, unless we have a showdown on furniture destruction.

@Powdork - yeah your stoke is one of the best things going on here fo sho.

no problem. couple knee steps. snow bonded well.

shralph - i think we crossed skintracks yesterday after reading your description. if so, you should have gone to the top. comma, diagonal and everything else above 9+k was $$$$ even when we left at 5pm. we had to take some easter pics wearing rabbit ears next to the cirque's rabbit ears

gimpy, I wanted to come up top but UCL and MapleLeaf didn't want to deal with the wind. Glad to hear diagonal was in play. With the low snow amounts we were happy about lower angle anyways and worried that lines like comma would be cracking off the new stuff and just skiing crust. SAC also threw up a really conservative report but we didn't find any evidence of graupel layer or anything ... friggin north lakers

I think we saw your skintrack on our exit, looks like you guys went up that east flank to get up top?

Looks like access is going to be the name of the game to get BC goods from here on out. Brap brap.

One of my friends also ran into you as you popped out of crescent on Saturday. Based on your excitement, 3 of the group decided to give it a go and got in a wee bit over their heads

dangberg was awesome this morning. really good. kirkwood was ok. probably much better towards the saddle and backside but i didn't want to leave the pup in the car too long. carson pass mini golf had less snow, but was still fun up top. wet and sticky below. it was wet slidey, but not quite oozing as of noon.

Sleeper micro-powder day at Rose and that's no April foolin'.

Amazingly it did not freeze up too much overnight so there was a little bit of fresh on soft mank and packed pow...very sweet and smooth and nearly empty. Snowed most of the time I was there. Even the Chutes were nearly decent.

Jim S - who were you at the Chinese Downhill? I was at the finish.

Met Ryland on Thu - he gave me a couple pulls off his training jug of Beam - young Owen gave him a pro callout

Had an excellent weekend at the USSA Far West kid ski races at SV this weekend.
