Playing it easy this week for tomorrow's knee slaughtering McConkey downhill.

Leaving for AK in a week: I did this last year and Tahoe got a huge dump the morning I left so let's hope there is a cause and effect and there's a repeat.

“A monthly snow survey near Echo Summit got off to an inauspicious start Thursday morning, with surveyors still able to see a hole punched into the snowpack from February’s measurements.”

“it would take about 22 inches of rain — or approximately 18 feet of snow — in the next month to catch the state up to historic averages”

Anyone know the status of Sonora pass? If y'all were getting rain down in south lake it seems like it could be decent I just don't want to ride my pro rmk on too many miles of pavement...

Looking at Rose summit, seems like the sierra passes and Lassen ought to be opening ahead of schedule, unless sequestration has taken away their ability to plow.

Yeah I'd do it with the standard rmk but definitely not the pro.

I was thinking the same thing but mammoth hasn't reported anything so I doubt there's much going on down there. I do know they started popping gates so you don't have to leave from the marine base or anything. Hopefully they're at least past the switchbacks.

Anyone want to do a sunset lap on Carson Spur tonight? I'm leaving the Bay around 2pm, so I should be there around 5-5:30pm.

Courtesy of powdork, there is a halfway decent chance that I was skiing the fattest skis on the hill at Squaw today

Kusalas kicked ass in the not-quite-corn, corn, mashed potatoes etc today, and were so straightforward to drive that even my skinny butt could ski them!

The dual mogul portion of the US Freestyle Championships at Heavenly, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been moved up to tomorrow (Saturday) morning, presumably due to the incoming rain.

Great fun watching the individual mogul skiers pound the course today - amazing athletes, good skiing conditions and good viewing. Having been a wannabe mogul skier ever since seeing a Wayne Wong poster sometime back in the 70's, it's a real pleasure to see how the sport is thriving today.

Almost on page two, so I'll post some stoke and beta shots.

Wishing I had friends to ski with this day before a solo trip down Cali. 4th of July and beyond has been calling my name for years.

Powdork and his ghost track from the day before

You could say the death star has been at work along this cliff band.

But there is still plenty of gnar out there. Just need to go out a little further.

Headwall has been skiing well as non-Mag Tony demonstrates.

Steady rain on the coast. Spackle up high. More pics/words at the blog.

Today was surprisingly fun despite the first frozen moguled granular we endured first thing headed to the backside. Eagle bowl and East Face of the Vista T-bar was $$$$ corn in the morning. Two laps in West Shore (made 2nd descent just before we lost the sun for the rest of the day) was pretty damn good. A mostly wintery slush pow from the storm two nights ago made each lap super easy and slarvable. Lower Cirque from T-saddle was untracked pow corn and was ripping. Spent the rest of the day skiing the front side of 10 and 6. The snowpack was pretty wet all the way to the top of 10 yielding steeps barfing snow as you dropped in.

Couple laps in West Shore Propa' by yours truely...notice the black cloud behind the peak.

Now there's a name I'd not heard in a long time.

Is he still a hammerhead-toting tele hippie or has he join the 21st century?

That pic of him at one of lph's parties rockin hop's Buff headband like a tube top is permanently seared into what's left of my brain.

Snowing at the top of Kingsbury. Just a dusting so far, after rain last night Really not sure what to expect today or where to go for the best conditions. Thoughts???
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Well I was going to try and get my snow tires off but Easter has apparently become a national holiday and nobody's open. Looking at next weekend's forecast I may just leave them on until then in case the weather guesses pan out. btw, anyone who wants some used snow tires for 97 vw ( small), they'll be cheap or trade for tune/ cider.

Good goods east of the CP today that started warming early but tightened up as a cold wind moved in around 11 - stayed fresh for two laps. Only a few inches, but the corn below was a supportable and edgeable skiing surface and plenty good for really fun turns.

But access is an issue - stringing together enough snow patches for approach & exit from 7500' is getting adventurous ... Gonna be pretty miserable unless we get a really cold and solid dump below 7k since there is a LOT of bare ground showing that would quickly melt off any new stuff.
