I'm not going up today but Alpine should be holding some goods in the high yellow - art's knob area. Yesterday Keyhole to Art's knob was absolute money with relatively little traffic. On my 8th run I was still getting completely fresh tracks in the Sherwood cliffs. God's groomer on the steeps was in full effect. Had to give yourself more room to slow down than what your eye made you think (definitely skier snow vs snowboard snow, but I love that dense shit too). No Beaver or Estelle but apparently High T is sheduled. Steeps in the backcountry sound a little scary. I was actually ski cutting things inbounds yesterday due to the dense slabs that kept breaking off everywhere.

Ugh, so far none of my theories for finding fun snow at Squaw have panned out. Rethinking over an early beer. Seems warm and calm enough, but not much softening so far.

when i can't find good snow anywhere, i generally go to headwall and lap hogsback for the rest of the day...

disclaimer: you probably won't enjoy it (but i usually do).

Morning hot laps on sentinel groomer. It was some of the bra groomer skiing I can recall. Mid day lap on head wall. It was wintertime goodness. West shore is basically been hit fyi.

Storm total about 10" overall average. That big Sentinal slab today was good wind deposition from the whole storm, not blown yesterday. (Not enough patrollers to open the entire hill yesterday.)

    Respect!

    Pali was lovely.

Anyone know when next year's Squaw season passes are scheduled to go on sale?
Do you by chance happen to own a large, yellowish, very flat cat?

Did something happen at Alpine today? I am seeing the following search terms pop up in the search terms results for UnofficialAlpine.com today: "ski lift accident alpine meadows" and "lift accident at alpine meadows". I heard that Big Blue was shut down at Squaw after multiple rollbacks but have not heard a word from Alpine today.
    Fuck those fucking motherfuckers!

We left the mountain around 11:00 to check out the Super G at Squaw and pulled over for multiple EMS crews heading up the road.

Is hogsback really a secret? I mean... I have my spots, but didn't think that was one of them.

it's definitely not a secret at all.

i was just saying it's one of my goto runs when good snow is hard to find.

i don't really ski any runs that are secrets...

Headwall opened while I was taking a break (11am or so). Hogsback/Headwall Face had some of the better snow today, but conditions were pretty variable. Good sized recent slide on headwall face so there's that debris field to avoid, death cookies, roller balls, heavy softening untracked, point releases all over the place. Spring solar radiation with solid refreeze overnight has done a number. Interestingly, the bed surface of that slide held some fun snow. Also some surprisingly pleasant conditions in Shirley Bowl.

For the storm day, Wednesday, Palisades did not open. On the backside, the Left turn off of the chair was roped off for the first time in memory. I do not know how far down slope was roped, we went the other way.

I was told they were short staffed because of avi dog certifications, and some important conference call. Nothing to do with conditions.
Not enough people to run all of the routes.

It was nice to have it saved for us on Thursday, though.

    I love Spring storms.

Tuesday/Wednesday next week would be nice, Mom. Thank you for this last one.

The cold, clear night worked wonders for the snow last night. The few patches of untracked improved, and the groomers were awesome all day. CPSSR may have been nice if anyone visited.

Was at Alpine yesterday. Palisades to the lower part of Our Father was really good. Didn't hike, get lazy when I'm alone. D's and Pete's were fun when it softened up. Snow is holding up OK

Found some sweet high elevation turns in the Moon Crescent on Sunday. Was surprised it hadn't been destroyed by anyone since the storm last week. Pics and Video coming soon.
