Why ski when you can just stay at home and complain about the snow? Geez

Pretty good sized wet slide in the Lowball Chute at Rose this afternoon. It happened right next to the venue for the Stake Your Claim Chutes Freeride Contest. It started with a small point release near the top of Lowball by a snowboarder and then propagated deeper and wider to the bottom of the slope, where the deposition pile was a good 8 feet deep. No entrapments, but definitely an eye opener. I had skied that route twice just before lunch to get to the venue.

(AP) The Squaw Valley USA resort near Lake Tahoe has dropped plans to build a roller coaster in a move applauded by environmentalists.

In a letter sent Thursday to Placer County officials, Squaw Valley Executive Vice President Mike Livak wrote that the resort was abandoning the “Timberline Twister” project “due to business considerations and capital priorities.”

He declined to elaborate in an interview with Truckee’s Sierra Sun.

The roller coaster, which was undergoing an environmental review, was intended to provide another amenity to guests. It would have featured a 3,000-foot linear track.

Tom Mooers of the conservation group Sierra Watch hailed the resort’s decision, saying officials “need to make sure each project fits into a broad vision for Squaw Valley in order to best safeguard the values” of the entire Tahoe area.

Great corn on tallac's cathedral bowl at 11:30 today. Getting back to the car at spring creek rd was a bit sporty with the thin cover.

Can't confirm, but I did get a survey a few weeks ago about vail pass options, and one was would I be interested in a KW/Mammy Pass. Um, maybe.

things that make you go hmmmmm.

on an unrelated note. skied some peak above incline village today. corn was phenomenal. like i'm starting to think jahroy might be right it was that good. on the other hand it might just be the skis. i think it been since i went wider than my salomon xscreams that i got a new ski and really liked the way it skied corn. i had just assumed fatter skis and corn don't match. turns out thats not entirely true.

that would make it part of vail and part of the mountain collective though, which makes it seem less likely

Squaw was awesome on Saturday: started with hike to Granite Peak going far out for south facing chutes, then Mainline Pocket, back to Shirely Chutes, then Slot. Even Sunbowl was good in the afternoon.

Rose was decent today too. Heck...it's skiing.

I heard something about a monorail spur line over Monitor Pass. Can't think where else it would go but Mammy. On a serious note, some random dude told me that 2 weeks ago, and I wrote it off when I saw nothing on the webz.

Corn was good this weekend at the (current) Vail south. Thanks Schralph for helping out with the harvest yesterday. Small crop, high quality. In the spirit of complaining, somebody needs to get those breccia stones out of the field soon, else we'll break the corn harvesters.

I was told a few weeks ago there was a decent chance this might happen. If true, pretty smart move by Vail IMO.
