The lookers left of mott is skiing great right now. The further out you get the better it gets although its getting thin in the usual sections. Follow it all the way out and get in the sun for some creamy corn. FC is skiing pretty fantastic too

Great conditions for alpine activities. Got scared, got silly, and broke some gear today. Whee!

    Going up

    More up

    And some down

Broke the walk mode on the Garmont Masterlite (something discussed elsewhere on the web). Otherwise, those things can turn a snowboard just fine.

Killebrew never opened today but far skier's right of Mott's was fucking awesome given the current state of the weather. Did about 5 laps around Rocky Point on the Y, poked around the cliff zones near Ernie's and found wintery goodness with even a few pockets of untracked.

KW report: super fun today, softening up great, hard to guess numbers but I'd say well under a thousand skiers on the hill.

Hey guys. I'm playing tourist this week from the East, and could use a hand mounting up some dynaduke plates on my billygoats, as I'm without any tools. Jondrums referenced the shop at squaw creek, but I guess their guy (Jeremy?) is out for a few days. If anyone's willing to meet up, I have beers and steak for your time. tahoe city today/tomorrow, then SF for work til Friday before coming back. pm if you're free -- Thanks!

BTW - this place is unbelievably beautiful. I'm super jealous of all you maggots that call it home.

    Near Kirkwood report ...

Shitty clouds and cold wind all day on Saturday ... so much for corn. Found some N-facing chalk that was reasonably fun to ski. Any N-face with any kind of steepness that is not completely sheltered by a cirque ridgeline is completely windhammered. Then the clouds cleared out and at night the temp dropped down to around 10 ... silly me believed the weather forecast and brought my 32* bag instead of my 0*. Cold night but gorgeous bluebird morning above 4th of July. Deadwood cirque needs a bit more snow! Bluebird on Sunday but a consistent cold west wind in the morning ... gave up on trying for SW aspects and tooled around on east aspects instead. Semi-soft where it was smooth, bumpy wind hammered junk pretty much everywhere else. Still better to be out in the mountains on a nice bluebird day than taking care of housecleaning chores or other mundane-ness.

We ended up testing our mettle with the most challenging skinning conditions I've ever had: pencil hard hollow windslab that was also faceting due to overnight cold temps, at the steep top of a bowl. Too firm to penetrate with your ski edges or pole baskets, while your ski crampons would just blow out chunks of slab and leave behind uncohesive snow. It was a good weekend for boot crampons and self-arrest tools. Type 2 fun for sure!

On Sunday we climbed Mt Lincoln at Sugar Bowl resort and headed toward Anderson peak along the ridge. Dropped in at the first large rock outcrop headed east and got a really nice run with snow deep enough you had to crawl to grab the lost ski. The goodness held way lower than expected with lots of interesting terrain and cliffs to watch for. Then the 5 mile tour out to the 76 station on cold stream rd.

Hey, I surfed some lumpy waves and cleaned the house yesterday. Felt like a day well spent. Now I am packing the car and headed toward fresh snow. Mundane? Perhaps. Good move? I thinks.

Thinking I won't make it your way today. If I get out of the house in the next half hour.

Not sure if this made it in here yet, but it's worth a pre-"storm on top of existing crust & faceted snow junk" bump if it already got posted. And, SAC has already indicated that these facets aren't likely to be an issue with the new weight loading ... be thankful that we have Andy, Brandon and their observer team of Steve & Travis to give us this info!

Support SAC, make donations, buy raffle tickets at their fundraisers!

Not much exciting going on here lately, so I ran off to Utah and Silverton last week. Here's some footage from UT. Hopefully this will get you excited for what's coming this week.....we need it.

My girlfriend and/or I are often between the bay and north lake, but usually up on Sunday and down Tue/Wed. Still welcome to give us a try.

Fair enough! I actually read the forecast the day before I posted and there weren't nada to speak of!

Unfortunately we don't get in until tomorrow night. Hope driving over from Reno isn't too interesting.

I'm a tall, bearded goofy-looking fuck in dirty yellow pants and a black trew. Ask for change. Like I said, it'd be fun to meet locals. We'll probably be trying to get in a few turns on Thursday between venue inspection runs.

Can't speak to Saturday as i wasn't there. Quite a bit busier Monday though.

edit: I guess I wasn't considering Timber Creek, though. Anyway, point is, the resort was as dead as can be for Presidents' Day weekend.

I stayed on the Wall yesterday so I can't speak for the whole resort, but I was there Saturday and Monday and never really waited for a chair.
    I can't remember...

    Question for squaw people:

Does the kangaroo kicker happen every year or are there special conditions that allow for it to occur?

Does it only happen before they groom the entrance for the race course?

I haven't hit that in a few years and I didn't know if I should hope for it to be there on Friday.
