Turx, I'll be around, most likely riding chair 9 early with the new guy until he peters out. I expect three runs at most. Then I might be up for a few runs off 6 before headed in to send out the mrs. Or something like that.
The Banzai is supposed to start at the top of All The Way, (lookers right on the Wall), so they will have the rest of wagon wheel closed off, I imagine. They might allow folks to travers through between heats, but that would kind of suck for later racers. Of course, you could still enter through Once or Sisters.
Anyway, hope to see ya up there.
Had good skiing on south aspects off Sherwood Chair today!
Tracks in wide path to left are ours
Second the Alpenglow love. One other "local" shop (not Backcountry) has rental boots listed on their site that their staff didn't even know they rented.
On the weather front [pause for laughter], I asked BA about this next storm setting up exactly like the last, with a cut-off low maybe joining a deep G of A trough but having to get through a weakening -albeit stubborn- ridge with results ranging from high-altitude rain to merely cold dustings or both and he says:
"Well, sad snow totals is relative as many areas will see 1-4 feet of snow over the past week. The next system does seems similar to the last, but each storm is different and I'm sure the details will play out much differently."
Thanks Joel (actually answered by Joel Gratz who thinks that I will feel better knowing that the North Cascades got 4 feet out of the storm). I guess we'll have to see how this wonderful little starchild of a system chooses to express itself meteorologically next week.
Thank you to all who gave info on parking for Benson/Sugar2Squaw. Will no doubt be useful when we use it. Didn't go because of the whole high wind thing although Maggie's had barely any wind when took jables out for his first tour on Tue.
We did not find powdork's stash, unfortch.

I like this picture because it shows me somewhere besides three switchbacks behind on the skin.
Thanks again Lepistoir.
Probably goin to Squaw tomorrow. Any Squaw beta? I assume it's typical spring-like conditions and timing for a mountain that has about 80% of the good terrain north facing --cough--cough

I'm sure there is good south facing out there,
but Incline south facing wasn't what I'd call corn really... Soft? sure. Edgable? yup. Consistent, smooth and not-character-building? Well, you know what they say, a day in the mountains is better'n a day at work.
I know what you mean Splitter, I had a day like that on Ralston last week - there was softness but a lot of other stuff going on too.
Based on PD's video goodness and SAC reporting more snow east of the lake, I went to the Freel Peak area today. It's got more dust and less wind-affected than the CP area. Very nice skiing up high.

Fingers crossed for still air ... Seems like lower elevation slopes might be a safer call unless the next couple of cycles get a really solid melt ...

Inspired by your dreamy video, Cinders & I went on a mission yesterday.
Glad to report the top was still wonderful dreamy sking!
Bit "crusty" lower down, but fine if you had plenty of room to make your turns, before we got to "the boneyard" and way out, which were just hardpack.
Even found untracked just outside Killibrew, but it was in Spring mode, pinwheels chasing you down the hill.
North Bowl too was big fun. Great day at the Heave!
Considering it hasn't snowed in a while, I'm puzzled where this layer of smoove has come from. Has it been that windy,or no-one going skiing?

Dropping in from the EC roll call. Headed out to Tahoe at the end of this month and been following this thread. I'm taking Mrs. Flounder skiing for the first time in 20+ years and going to need a good rental setup for her. I've seen all the love for Alpenglow but we are staying south. Any good recommendations for shops in that area?
Probably skiing a few different areas during the week, we usually don't make much in advance plans. I'll be on my EC Worth's, pink bases and blue print tops. If you see me floundering around ask for change.
South Lake must have more ski rental shops than anyplace on the planet (except for maybe the Killington access road.) So discount-type rentals are easy to find. Although I have no direct experience with renting around here, the best ski/outdoor store in SLT that I've found is Sports Ltd., located in the Raley's plaza looker's right of the Heavenly gondola base area.
