That ship sailed a while ago. Most recently there was a skier fatality just outside the boundaries last March.

Sherwood was spinning today, but when I left around 11 it wasn't loading. Heard lots of folks saying they were hoping it would open, but I figured it wouldn't. Doubt it did (although I'm sure if it did, someone will let me know).

Did my few laps this morning on groomers, all of the snow pack talk fresh in my mind. Serious stuff. I sure hope people are aware of what is going on. On lighter news, snowing pretty well at my place up in Talmont. Christmas dinner is coming together and the bourbon is delicious. Merry Christmas to all.
Sherwood did open. My son skied it. It had to be hard for patrol to go out there today and bomb it.

The losses stay with them year after year. There's a reason why theres consolidation abound in the resort industry. Also, no snow in Colorado means the parent co for KW and Heavnly are using this to offset their losses in their home state. Geographical diversification, it's the only way some of these resorts can stay open unfortunately. Powder Mountain RIP.

yes but we were only talking this year specifically. and yeah, vail will be offsetting but ksl's main properties are all killing it as far as snow and conditions. as far as skier visits and hotel bookings, it will be busy, although the good weather forecast has gone by the wayside. :-)

Condolences to those families and friends affected by the passing of the AM patroller. What a crazy crazy week. It must have been some serious trauma even though he was found within 8 mins the story says.

Anyone know where in Sherwood this happened?

Ugh. Just terrible news. To lose a co-worker and a friend... man, those hard-working folks must be reeling.

Bummer. Heading up in 4 hours for the week w my wife and son. This kind of tragedy makes me want to just sit in the condo all day playing go-fish.

no! it makes you want to celebrate life. he was an alpine patroller for 28 years and i'm sure a passionate skier for longer than that. getting you out of the condo and into the snow is one of the good things that comes from that work and passion. go get some in his name instead. go instill the passion in your kid instead!

REI. I believe. Not much of a discount, but a little. Have not seen much else. As pass prices go down, discounts seem to go away.

Yeah. I think it was probably loading when we saw it spinning, but I figured it was on patrol hold for a while longer. We took a few laps at lakeview before people realized it was spinning and it was great.

TahoeJ-I missed that. Where did it happen?

My pass is blacked out til Jan 1st. Which isn't so bad cause my legs could use a rest. Everybody enjoy and be safe.

I like that you saw your landing was filled with avy debris and went for it anyway. More stoke videos should include wipeouts - it's part of the fun.

Munchkins. Technically they hiked up to it and didn't exit through a gate since Scott wasn't even open that day.

    Longtime lurker, first time poster.

TahoeJ - I assume you are referencing the Stanford Rock fatality last March? Not really Alpine sidecountry as you'd have to put in some serious effort to get there from an inbounds lift. Munchkins is the far more likely zone for things to go tragically awry.

Be safe out there this week. Blacked out passes, lot's of fresh snow and considerable avy danger are a tough mix. Even the people who do it for a living have been getting it wrong all week. No need to push it, there's plenty of low angle to have fun on.

I thought it was Munchkins - sounds like I was mistaken.

Man rough couple of days in CA. Vibes to all. This hit my brother with a pretty big reality check, he's finishing his patrolled candidacy at Squaw.

Very excited to get up to Squaw this Fri -Monday. If anyone is at Squaw or in the area it'd be cool to meet some mags for a beer or turns.

Sure looks more filled in from your point a view than from 89. Guessing that was a little soft slab from the new snow that had just fallen?

I think I can speak for everyone at Alpine Meadows today (all 300 of them) when I say... Best. Day. Ever.
