just got back from the wood. Things are getting plastered nicely there. Did a lap at Danberg yesterday that was as crusty and crunchy as they come. today the same lap was creamy goodness, although i was completely soaked at the end.
6 was running, not loading. not going to today. Tomorrow?

I skied the Heave today, light rain at the lake and a blizzard on top, I left at noon because they where getting ready to shut it down because of wind, but it was fun while it lasted, 2-3" of fresh.

Proably something to do with the fact that ITS RAINING

Looks like snow level is around 8,000 feet (Sorta)

I am starting to wonder if this is going to turn into another November flood like back in 2006?

Mercury is supposed to drop tonight, so tommorrow should be $weet. I woudn't be surprised to see some wind hold at the Heave again tomorrow. Forecasting gusts up to 90 mph on ridges.

Recent response from Coop on Facebook, about 45 minutes ago:

"We are looking at all options for more terrain. Fro tomorrow we will open Solitude Chair 5. Next on the list is The Reut & Snowkirk. We now need temps to drop so we can subsidize the Ma~Natural with snow making to fill in the blanks... Perfect base building tonight.. We'll keep looking day to day."

So if you were hoping 6'd go tomorrow... looks unlikely.

However, good to know Coop will be rocking "Fro tomorrow" I am sick of that long hippy hair.

I also like how "mother nature's natural (tm)" is now just "Ma-Natural." Come on, Coop, pick a catchprase and stick with it.

This all sounds like very good news. Above freezing, but snowing, at the base means thins are getting slathered. Keep it coming. Just hope now that the last 6" fall a cold snow. Then things will be good to go.

I stated earlier that I got hit by Ski Patrol at Heavenly for skiing closed terrain. Today my buddy got stopped and given a yellow card for doing the same. WTF, the closed stuff is the only terrain worth skiing. We did this all last year without incident. Can't wait for enough snow to exit the gates.

Be careful out there. By this I mean watch out for those enforcing the rules of papa Vail.

So, you duck ropes and get called on it? So odd a company that is trying to avoid injury and lawsuits would do such a thing. I mean, when I walk into a Home Depot, and they put up those "safety" gates to "keep me out of an area" and I jump over them, because I really need a female quarter turn, why I'd never expect for them to tell me to GTFO. What is it these days with private companies enforcing their rules. I bet it is Obama and the mommy state.

    also from the link though
Shooting cracks, cracking and collapsing were common but no avalanches were observed or could be initiated by ski cuts.
of course, there is going to be a lot of new snow overnight on top of that layer if it stays reactive

Was outside a few minutes ago here in Sac, and the wind just turned that kind of cold that makes me think Tahoe's gonna get it good tonight. Wish I could get up there this week, stupid classes and stupid Thanksgiving...

I found that a bit confusing, but understood it. Right then Saturady Mid Day ehh it all good.
I am FAR from an expert in these things. But just watching the Video, I look at the 2 taps think about the purrrdy 20 more inches that will be there Sunday Morning and I belive you will end up wearing that layer if you try and ski it. Thats not something that is going to bond in less than one day right?

If they are trying to avoid people from getting injured then they should close the mountain. Skiing by definition is unsafe. I can understand not wanting lawsuits, but I believe the waiver I signed covers this.

Don't care for the HD analogy, I don't consider it an apples to apples comparison.

Another reason for post was to give a heads up to others that like to do as I do, and save themselves from being spanked by papa Vail.

here in the sierra, most bonding does occur in the first day after the snow falls. the graupel and needles are not typically the type of things that become persistent problems here. i'm certainly not saying its gonna be safe tomorrow, especially with additional snow falling tonight. just saying it's not unusual here as we tend to get way more abnormally shaped crystals prisms and rimey flakes than a continental pack.

from my armchair, w/o having a sound card on my machine, and from reading the linked obs page, that's a storm instability, which very easily may mellow out and bond very soon.

reading the obs page, they weren't getting or observing anything to move outside of their pit, but saw signs (shooting cracks, whooping) that would indicate caution (to me) while on their tour. it might be worth keeping it in the back of yer head the next day, but probably not. from an academic perspective, i'd be interesting if they could replica their results on the same weakness at the same location tomorrow (sunday). I doubt it.

reading the upcoming wx forecast, i'd be more thinking about instabilities from the new snow coming in through the night, especially with the forecasted winds.

naah dookey, the cool thing to do is to blame it on the hipsters.
you gonna be a at northstar tomorrow, might be there from 10:30-1:30, or i might be up at tamarack peak, very near that same pit.
