    VIBES,

Seems this should have its own thread.
Sounds like she got hit by lighting, Just a freak thing to happen.

Local Girls who want to climb a mountain to get the first tracks in are a special thing.
    Big loss.
I Bet she had a big grin on right before the lights went out.

Nothing in any of the local papers that I can find

I feel sad. I hear the sadness from many here. We all know this could be us or someone we know just as easily as her. We are out there to get the fresh, unable to resist the feeling of sliding down cold mountains. I am sure it is true for many as well, but I know for myself that I would rather die that way than hunkering down at the computer into the evening on a Friday night to secure my nest egg and having a diabetic stroke. That said, we all should be cautious and maintain presence of mind about the dangers out there and how real it can be. Stay alert, make decisions that keep skiing in your future and the future in your skiing. Watch out for each other and give your buddies the honor of hearing your concerns, misgivings or unease. Live to Ski means Live...to ski another day.

Also, it will definitely impact access to Alpine one way or another and the community that enjoys that hill before opening day (and after) should be ready to respond. Anyone here in PR?

In the spirit of what was good about the past weekend, a few pics.

From Saturday. It is a Bromance. Posing for their Holiday Card.

From Sunday. Harpo the Skier gets some earned turns.

And keeps on enjoying them in the forest.

The main runs were tracked out by noon.

Powdork finds a powdery alley, just as the sun pokes out for a moment

    You call this "blower"?

Nacho, back the fuck off! Daddy wants to jump.

Down below, untouched snow, late in the day. No need to spin those lifts

And on Sunday, the sun came out. Powdork in Thimble Bowl

The sun was making for some creamy turns.

The entrance into Two Man is still a bit thin. And powdery.

Parting shot. Good to the last drop.

More pics and word at the hosting blog.

Again, play safe out there folks. It looks like we have a long season ahead of us.

Thanks for all the early season stoke guys. This time of year I'm putting as much face time in with the wife as possible so I can counter complaints about me being gone all winter

Went & did a quick lap in west bowl @ sierra this morning. Found some great turns on n facing stuff. Slight crust in the sunny areas but it broke pretty easily.

I find it funny that failwood puts 6'ers video up on the facebook page (clearly the wood doesn't have enough snow) and then brags about opening chair 5. I think the marketing dept gave the green light to book holiday vacations or the Lawyers called and told them to open so we will not be allowed to hike anymore. Either way it is all about the $, not the coverage. The mountain is holding more snow than it was in Feb of 2012. Sunday delivered the goods and Friday we will just look at em. I think the Heavenly 6 pack is a better run than 5, WTF?
Failwood gets a -10 on the stoke meter. I can't wait for the yellow jackets and closed ropes that come next.
I'm cool with this, as long as you Kirkwood Bro Brah's stay away from Heavenly when 88 closes- TahoeBc

Don't know why you would just assume that. Word is there was some debate on shutting access down on Sunday, but it never happened. Not sure they could do anything about access even if they want to, provided there is no interference with mountain ops.

An then the Opening Day Announcement says " We also ask guests to please help us preserve early season snow conditions by not hiking other areas of the mountain at this time. "

    Saving it for whom?

It is a request. Not sure what they can do to stop you from hiking closed terrain, as long a you do not use a lift. OTOH, there I plenty of goods to hike in the BC.

Don't matter much for me. The lady is in Vegas and us boys have a weekend at home planned. Hopefully they actually open up terrain by the 21st.

I think he is actually concerned for your safety, with the obvious lack of snow and all...

apparently they think they sold too many passes so they are not even gonna sell anymore after this weekend. they also are not letting employees dependents ski until further notice so as not too clog the limited open terrain.

and of course they are going to say no hiking when they open. folks that go to kwood to hike before it opens know what they are getting into and are at least a little prepared. most folks that are there to ride lifts will see the surrounding closed terrain and want to hike to it while being totally unprepared or unfit or both, resulting in more injuries/rescues. as long as you stay out of sight and dont be a dipshit they shouldn't hassle you. obviously stay away from 6 and 10 and focus your efforts on the backside, thunder, eagle, palisades, martin pt, etc where you wont be seen. and leave the skittles jackets at home.

the snow is still holding incredibly well. re-crystalized surface hoar on the surface that skiis like a dream.

The snow from the last turn is still hanging in the air as the skier enters the next turn. Yes, that's blower. And I'm stuck with the flies in Visalia. Thanks for bringing the look and feel to me.

I'm guessing it would take a pre-opening avy (with deadly results) for them to shut down access, kind of like Snowbird did last year following that weekend where Jamie Pierre was killed and several other slides were triggered.

On to better topics, the forecast models keep flipping back and forth on where the precip will come in, but it's looking good again over the next 10 days.

Have a group of friends hiking Sierra on Saturday for a lap or 2 then some beacon training. Let me know if anyone wants to join. BA is calling for 6-12" by sat morning, so it should be pretty good
