i'm guessing (based on how the open slopes above caples were) the open bowl at the top will be windcrust, though the middle of it could be good. if it looks like the rippled sandy bottom under 3 feet of ocean water then its soft if it's textured like sandstone it's crust. anything north trees will be good of course and the small tree stuff above the lake is generally wind sheltered plus gets no sun now. i'm guessing its seen a lot of traffic though

Played a short round of golf this morning. I stepped up to a harder course this time, but I did not quite swing as well. Two holes literally kicked my ass, and they were basically copies of each other. Funny thing though, my partner kept pointing out this par 5 I should try. Yeah, right. All in all, a great day at the whites and it is always great to get out and tee off a few.

Red Lake peak was interesting. Side hilling wind scoured glare ice on the way up had me puckered like never before. I'm the farthest thing from a skier I could imagine. That being said, the down was amazeballs. The top section looked like wind scoured shit but ended up being wind board pow. Once to the choke it was nice & smooth. From crater lake down was super fun snow.

We ran across a pack, skis, poles, all stashed neatly under a tree near a recent avy incident. We left it alone but if anybody has Q's, pm me.

So my friend's family has a place on the south end of Donner Lake, and I'll be spending some time there soon-ish. I know people exit the gate at Sugar Bowl and work their way down there, but can anyone provide me with some good skins / hikes starting from that general area? PM's appreciated if you don't want to post it publicly.

hitch a ride up to the summit and ski down - assuming you have opposable thumbs

    sugar bowl has a bus

you can get a 1 ride ticket or walk to the top of the ski area
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

Where's Dookey with the snow report? Vail South (aka KW) is skiing muy bueno. Legitimate packed powder all over with a little loose on top - good cold soft snow everywhere and nobody here. These are the best 'resort' conditions I've seen in years.

Turx, I'm up but don't have your digits.

Anyone in Tahoe have any of the skis below mounted with a 306mm-ish BSL? Looking to try a few runs (I'm looking for a resort driver)

    Blizzard Bonafide 180
    Armada TST 183
    ON3P Tychoon 176 or 184
    DPS W99 Hybrid 176 or 184
    Moment PB&J 182

Sonora pass was really good yesterday. Lots of wind buff up high, also some windcrust and stashes of blower on lower N facing protected areas.

Start Haus may have the TST too. Pretty sure they are carrying Armada this season.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Yes, they are - hence all of the photos of Tanner hanging out there in recent months.

Schralph - I saw your other thread, but you should give a serious look at some 105 - 108mm skis in addition to the 98-100 range. Kastle BMX 108, Blizzard Cochise, Rocker2 108, Line SFB, ON3P Jeffrey, Moment Belafonte are all good resort one ski quivers to consider. I'd rather have a little more fun on soft snow days than hardpack days. (For the record, the Cochise is my resort daily driver)

I used to rent a place on Conifer, and we would skin up leaving from the back door (sweet!). There is a peak with some pretty steep skiing, including an optional covered train track huck. Start as far to the west end of Conifer as you can get away with and head south to the shoulder, then up the ridge. Ski down anywhere you want. There is another peak with some extreme stuff a little further west.

On big powder days, we'd do a 45 minute lap from the back door up to the shoulder. Its only 600ft vert, but plenty fun.

If you look hard enough, there is a video of a "underground" ski comp at an undisclosed location, which is the more western peak I talked about. Watch it, then decide if you want to tackle it
